Welcome

Spring is around the corner and this means the beginning of Pallavi season. Hope we have another year of exciting and high powered concerts in the next few months. We look forward to your help, support and active participation.

New Board

At the last general body meeting the following members to Pallavi Board were elected unanimously: Jayasimha Kannambille, Thyagarajan Subramanian, Harihar Iyer, Rama Ramani, Swatantra Mitta, M.R. Balakrishna, Nalini Madiwale, Ramani Mani, Narayan Nair, Shivkumar Kalyanaraman, Ravi Pilar, Raj Addepalli, M.S. Krishnamoorthy and M. Raghavachari.

8th Thyagaraja Aradhana on April 10, 2004

The eighth Thyagaraja Aradhana will be conducted on Saturday April 10 at the Hindu temple ,Albany. As per the tradition this will be a joint event with the Temple. As usual, there will be a rendering of Thyagaraja pancharatna kritis and individual presentations in the morning. In the evening, there will be a vocal concert by Hyderabad Sisters and party.

Pancharatna kriti practice and Registration for Individual Presentations

Dr. Shiv Kalyanaraman will be coordinating the Pancharatna kriti part and anyone interested in practicing for the event, please contact him at or or phone 782-7875. If you wish to participate in the individual presentations, please call Janaki Krishnamoorthy (273-6624) or Ramani Raghavachari (899-9672) and register your name and the Thyagaraja kriti that you wish to sing. Children and youth are especially invited to practice a Thyagaraja kriti and sing on that day. More details will follow soon.

Sarod Concert

We are planning a Sarod Concert on May 16th (Sunday) 2004. We will keep you posted as soon as all the details are finalized. For further information, please contact Dr. Nalini Madiwale.

Albany-Schenectady League of Arts Grant

Pallavi received a grant of $ 750 for 2004 in response to our proposal we submitted to them. The funding is to organize the Thyagaraja Aradhana and a vocal concert by Ms. Kiranavali to be scheduled later this year

GE Matching Grant

In 2003 we received approval from General Electric corporation to be part of their gift matching program. GE employees and retirees enthusiastically responded to our call and we were able to collect about $ 1300 from them as gifts. GE will match an equal amount thisyearbased on our last year’s receipts. Pallavi thanks all those who donated the amount and hopes they will

continue to contribute for 2004 as well. Thanks are due to Sri Narayan Nair for his efforts to reach out to several GE employees and retirees.

If you are not a member, please become one and support music activities in the capital district. You can send the check to Pallavi of the Capital District, P. O. Box 1732, Latham, NY 12110. Pallavi has obtained tax exemption status under section 501(c) of the IRS code.

New Membership Policies:

Pallavi board members are doing their best to bring in talented musicians to our area. It costs more (especially after September 11, 2001) to bring

artists from India.

At the annual General Membership Meeting of Pallavi in November 2003,

the following classes of membership were unanimously approved by the general membership.

The new categories of membership and donations are noted below:
