PACKING FOR GIVE-AWAYS

Your baggage allowance permits 2 bags of 23 kg each, plus carry-on. This is a lot of baggage. The total length plus width plus height can not exceed 158 cm. Be sure that you actually measure your bag, full or not, if it measures more they may charge you overage.

USEFUL THINGS TO GIVE AWAY

If you would like to bring clothing and/or toys to give away here is a list of useful items:

-baby clothes, new bottles, don’t bother with paper diapers or formula as they can be bought down there and take up huge space in the bags.

-children’s clothing

-good quality solid shoes, no sandals, all sizes up to about Men’s 10

-light weight hikers, all sizes up to a Men’s 10

-cargo type shorts and long pants

-good quality T shirts (clean , with no holes in them)

-girls shirts, (nothing skimpy, shoulders and tummies covered)

-girls dresses and skirts or girlie sweaters, all good

-sweatshirts, hoodies, sweaters, light weight parkas

-ball caps, light weight toques, light weight mittens

-stationery supplies, as in crayons, coloured pens, markers, paint sets, math sets, calculators (scientific ones too for high school) don’t bother with paper as it is heavy and easily available down there, but art pads and quality paper is good

-ladies’ large dresses (up to sz 20), ladies there tend to have large waists

-ladies’ dresses not so large will also be used for our teens

Particular sizes that we use for our post secondary students:

-dresses/skirts sizes 8 thru 14

-pretty tops all women sizes, small thru large

-good quality brand new bras are a huge hit, if you know a shop owner sometimes they flush out old stock

-men’s shoes, good Q runners and black dress shoes, conservative, sizes 8.5 thru 10.5 in particular, lots of young men these sizes

-men’s jeans sizes 32 thru 36, mostly 32/34

-women’s jeans sizes 8 thru 14 or waist sizes 30 thru 34

They are pretty conservative, yet snappy dressers, so no dresses like the Amish wear or old dungarees or anything like that. If you want to buy for the mothers and gogo’s though, then go with the Amish look and huge sizes.

Don’t send used underwear, boxers or sox. They ARE needed, so if you wish to please buy them new. They are cheap at superstore. The girls wear white socks to school and the boys wear black, mid shin length.

Don’t send weapons or anything requiring batteries. Stuffies, dolls, boys’ cars and trucks are all good. Books but make them very simple and not big and heavy, as English is 2nd language.

Hope that helps.
