Meet Our Support Staff

Renee PortfilioSchool Counselor O-Z

Mrs. Portfilio is from Pennsylvania. She was an elementary school teacher, elementary school counselor, middle school counselor and holds a BS Ed from IUP and MA in Counseling from WVU. This is her 20th year in MCS and looks forward to playing some golf with the girls’ golf team!

Jenny Haigler School Counseling Intern

Mrs. Haigler is fromMaryland. She was an EC teacher in the state of HI, holds the following degrees: BS Psychology, Post-Bac Cert in Special Ed, current student, Masters in School Counseling. This is her first year with MCS and looks forward to spending time with UPHS students, staff and families until September 18.

Janice French School Counselor H-N

Mrs. French is from Texas and is a former high school business teacher. She holds the following degrees: BBA in Business/Secondary Ed and Masters in Ed/Guidance. Mrs. French has been with MCS for 6 years and she has found her happy place in becoming a Viking!

Donna Everett School Counselor A-G

Mrs. Everett is from Moore County. She was an elementary school teacher and middle school counselor and holds degrees in: Associates SCC, BS Fayetteville State and MA in Counseling from Campbell University. This is her 26th year in MCS and she loves to cook and play the guitar!

Scott AbsherAt-Risk Coordinator/Graduation

Mr. Absher is from Elizabethtown, NC and was the former principal of North Moore HS. He holds the following degrees: UNCW Health and Phys Ed, Masters in Health and Phys Ed. GW, Masters in School Administration, Curriculum and Instruction. He has worked for MCS for 31and a half years, Ching! Ching!

Jenn Kraft Registrar, Webmaster, Counselor Asst.

Mrs. Kraft is from Minnesota and holds a degree in Elementary Ed/Special Ed. She taught elementary school in WA for 6 years, and 12 years in MCS.She has two beautiful daughters Rylee (junior UPHS) and McKayla (ECU).

L. Summer Mack School Social Worker

Hours: Mon A.M., Tues P.M., Thurs A.M. Fri P.M. Mrs. Mack is from Seven Lakes, NC. She worked with a military program called New Parent Support (reducing abuse and neglect, children under 4). She has a Masters of Social Work from NCSU and has worked with MCS as a school counselor for 9 years (on and off due to living overseas in Germany and Italy). She is excited to work with the families and students of MCS.

Sharon Nichols RN BSN School Nurse

Hours: Mon 12:30-3:30 P.M. Tues 8-12 P.M. Wed 12:30-3:30 P.M. Thurs 8-12 P.M. Fri 12:30-3:30 P.M. Mrs. Nichols is from Moore County. She has a BS in Nursing from UNC Charlotte. She also works at First Health of the Carolinas. She has been a school nurse for the last 17 years and has two children.

Erica Murtaugh School Psychologist

ondays and Wednesdays at UPHS. Mrs. Murtaugh is from Colorado. She did internship experiences in Colorado Springs and MCS. She has a BA in Integrated Science, Ed.S. in Child, Family and School Psychology from UD. She has worked for MCS for 2 years, is an army wife and the proud mommy of 2 boys.

Stacy Patterson Career and College Promise Counselor

Wed, Thurs, and Friday at UPHS, Mon and Tues NMHS. Ms. Patterson is from Pinehurst. She worked at Disney World in college. She holds the following degrees: BA Elementary Ed UNC Chapel Hill and School Counseling M.Ed. Campbell University. She has worked for MCS for three years. She is excited for the new year and registering our students for SCC courses!

Melanie Lee Career Development Counselor

. Ms. Lee is coming from Harnett County Schools and has been a middle school CTE teacher for 9 years. She will promote career development services, career awareness, exploration and planning, assist students with selecting CTE courses, and assist students with postsecondary education and employment opportunities.

Janet Caddell Scholarship Coordinator

Mrs. Caddell is from Moore County. She worked at Cameron Elementary and Vass-Lakeview. She holds a Bachelors degree in Liberal Arts and Education. Mrs. Caddell has worked for MCS for 14 years.
