All students contributed initial storylines and act progression for the evening. On deciding on the order of the acts and storyline all students contributed scripts that are combined to bring you tonight’s production.

PRIOR TO OPENING ACT STUDENT NARRATORS COMES ONTO STAGE

NARRATORS:

#narrator 1:Welcome to our 2013 School Production. Our script has been developed from our learning during Term 2

#narrator 2:We looked at the concept CHANGE OVER TIME and the many ways we view change in many different areas of our everyday lives

#narrator 1:Some of us looked at the earth, others sport, toys, technology and our teacher’s favourite education

(Student pauses and sighs)

#narrator 2:Oh! How they pine for the olden days – (LOOK LEFT AND RIGHT MAKING SURE NO TEACHERS ARE LOOKING) we even learnt teachers could even hit children and get away with it

#narrator 1:Some children learnt that their belief that their parents were never little was wrong and they did grow up with video recorders which you put big black blocks into to watch movies

#narrator 2:Let’s not forget that we thought the world was in black and white until colour was invented in 1990

#narrator 1: So sit back relax and enjoy the efforts of a script written by us

#narrator 2: acted by us and if it’s good

#narrator 1 AND #narrator 2: TELL US! (SAID LOUDLY)

(PAUSE AND LOOK AT NARRATOR #1) and if it’s not

#narrator 1 AND #narrator 2:BLAME THE TEACHERS! (SAID LOUDLY)

Scene One.

(CURTAIN RISES TO SEE SCHOOL GROUNDS AND BUILDINGS PROJECTED ONTO BACKGROUND SCREEN. SCHOOL BELL IS RINGING AS STUDENTS #1 AND #2 ENTER STAGE RIGHT AND STUDENTS #3 AND #4 ENTER STAGE LEFT. IN FRONT LEFT CORNER OF STAGE IS TIME MACHINE WITH SEVERAL BOXES AND PLUMBING PIPES LYING IN FRONT OBSTRUCTING ITS VIEW TITLE. A SHEET ALSO IS DRAPED OVER HALF OBSCURING THE WORDS SCHOOL TIME MACHINE)

ST# 1: Pass it to me, pass it to me!

(STUDENT #3 THROWS BALL TO STUDENT #1)

ST# 2: Guys! Throw it to me now.

(STUDENT #1 THROWS BALL TO STUDENT #2)

ST#3: What game are we going to play – we have all the time in the world.

(STUDENTS GATHER IN THE FRONT OF STAGE AND PAUSE BEFORE SPEAKING)

ST#4:Don’t you love it. We finish early because our teachers work too hard

(ALL STUDENTS): And tomorrow is a day off

ST# 2: What do our teachers do when we are not at school again?

ST# 1: They tell our parents they are working hard to help us learn better or something

ST#3: My dad says they sit around talking and drinking coffee

ST#4 and ST# 2: I’m sure not all of them drink coffee – I know Jennifer drinks herbal tea

(STUDENTS BEGIN TO PLAY BALL GAME AGAIN. BALL PASSES FROM STUDENT TO STUDENT – TALKING TO EACH OTHER AND LAUGHING UNTIL IT ENDS UP WITH ST# 2)

(ST# 2 STOPS WITH THE BALL AND LOOKS AT TIME MACHINE/OLD LOOKING SHED)

(BACK GROUND ON SCREEN IS NOW NEW BUILDING SITE)

ST# 2: Hey guys. Is that a new shed for the builders over there? I’m sure it wasn’t there before

ST# 1 and ST# 2: Oh Yeah. I haven’t seen it before

(STUDENTS MOVE TOWARDS TIME MACHINE REMOVING BOXES RUBBISH ITEMS HIDING ITS VIEW)

ST# 4: (SMILES MISCHIEVIOUSLY): Hmmm why don’t we check out what’s inside?

ST# 2: Why not

ST# 3: Guys I have a funny feeling about this

ST# 1: Don’t be such a baby

(ST# 4 PULLS OFF THE CLOTH COVERING THE TIME MACHINE. ALL STUDENTS TURN AND LOOK AT EACH OTHER IN AMAZEMENT)

ST# 4: Hey look at the writing on the side (POINTS TO WRITING ON SIDE AND READS ALOUD) Time Machine 2009

(Back-up singers come onto stage – lead characters move to centre of stage)

Let’s go and see 1983!

So what we go out, that’s how it’s s’pos to be

ST# 3: I thought time machines didn’t exist

ST# 2: They don’t. This must be a fake

ST# 4: Well just like my mum says when she sees dad doing the dishes - (PAUSE) -it’s too good to be true

ST# 1: Guys just don’t touch something. I want to watch Horrible Histories on television tonight not go back in time and be part of it

(STUDENTS LOOK AROUND THE TIME MACHINE FROM ALL ANGLES POINTING AT ALL THE BUTTONS AND DIALS – THEY ARE SAYING:

ALL STUDENTS – WHAT’S THIS DO? WHY DO THEY HAVE THIS BUTTON? WILL IT REALLY WORK?)

(STUDENT #3 TOUCHES SWITCH THAT SETS LIGHTS FLASHING AND A WHIRRING NOISE –STUDENTS LOOK AT EACH OTHER AS STAGE LIGHTGOES DONE AND CURTAIN BEGINS TO FALL)

STUDENT ACT ONE: BEC AND CELIE: SCIENCE AND SPORT

SYNOPSIS

Curtain opens:

Students with planets are centre stage – others groups off stage

Back screen will have a space them – Dialogue followed by song Mr. Parr’s Planet’s around a star (3.41min)

Students exit stage as Music

Fade out and reveal:[20 sec per song= 2 mins + script]

1950s band/artist stating that their song is a hit, and play it on the record player.

Elvis Presley’s Hound dog or Chuck Berry’s Johnny b good.

Boys in suits with bow tie, girls in 50s style skirts and scarf around the neck

1960s band/artist stating that their song is a hit, and play it on the record player.

The Beatles’ Blackbird or A day in the life.

Singlets and flares

1970s band/artist stating that their song is a hit, and play it on a cassette tape.

Fleetwood Mac’s Go your own way or Chuck Berry’s Johnny b good.

Disco and denim

1980s band/artist stating that their song is a hit, and play it on a cassette tape.

New Order’s Blue Monday or Talking Heads’ Once in a lifetime.

Punk and fluoro colours

1990s band/artist stating that their song is a hit, and play it on a CD.

Nirvana’s Smells like teen spirit.

Grunge – denim and t-shirt with long hair

Sports people dance to sport music showing the skills of the games.[30 sec of each = 2 min]

Basketball – woolen sleeveless shirt with socks to above the knees, headbands and sweat bands & baggy shirt, baggy shorts and high top runners witha basketball each

Lil Bow Wow’s Basketball

Tennis – long white pants and woollen jumper tied over the shoulders andwooden tennis racket& breathable t-shirt, baggy shorts, backwards cap and tennis racket

Robin Ward’s Wimbledon Song

Olympics – runner in a singlet and short shorts with a batton& a BMX rider in loose long sleeve top, loose shorts, gloves and full face helmet with a BMX

ST# 2: Did we just go back in time?

ST# 3: As Dorothy said to Toto “were not in Wyndham Vale anymore:

ST# 1: Well we are certainly lucky to still be in Australia but we need to get all the way home.

ST# 4: Well it looks like we can’t go straight home if we need to make a puzzle. I guess let’s just hit that button again and see if we can get closer to home.

All children are on stage as curtain lifts

I am Australian commences with children performing song in Auslan with actions

Goyte instrumental – children doing techno performance to the music

Student on stage gives ST#1-4 a puzzle piece and says: Take this and it will help you return to 2013

ST# 3: You mean in the right year and place

ST# 1: Well it all looks a little strange – none of these faces look familiar

ST# 4: Well if it’s a puzzle we need to make we’re not there yet. I guess let’s just hit that button again and see if we can get closer to home

STUDENT ACT THREE: MANDARIN INTERLUDE

SYNOPSIS

Curtain Opens:

Small group of junior students are left of stage that will perform Twinkle Twinkle Little Star - Mandarin performers will mingle and go about their business whilst this is happening.

Following TTLS children will perform in English/Mandarin Won’t you take me to China Town

Students are transported sideways to an unknown destination that is indeed China in a time gone by – students on stage will be dressed in TRADITIONAL CHINESE COSTUME going about their day and then sing song Won’t you take me to China Town to the tune of Won’t you take me to Funky Town

SYNOPSIS

All students start on stage

Begin with The Transport song

In the past children went to school in different ways. Most children in the olden days walked to school

Followed by speaking role:

Some children, in the past, rode their bikes. Some children still ride their bikes to school.

Later on children took the bus to school

STUDENT ACT FIVE: ELIZABETH AND CARLA: FASHION

SYNOPSIS

Curtain Opens with all children on stage: Performing Group stands whilst others remain seated
Children will perform in this order with accompanying music
1. The Charleston (1920’s)
Black dress and shoes, headband with feather
Long black pants, long sleeved dress white dress and black tie, school shoes
2. Blue Suede Shoes- Elvis Presley (1950’s)
Rock and Roll full swing skirt, runners, Jeans and a white t-shit, slicked hair and a pair of white runners
3. Yellow Pokka Dot Bikini (1960’s)
Black leggings and a black t-shirt, beach towel and a pair of cheap sunnies, bare feet
4. Cha Cha Slide DJ Casper (Hip Hop 1980’s)
white singlets, jeans, pullover jumper on wait, Mohawk hair with gel, runners

ST# 3: Well blue shoes or not my mum will be blue in the face when she finishes with me if I stay out too late

ST# 1: Don’t get in a flap – get it- about it. We’ll figure it out

SYNOPSIS

All children on stage:

7 sections of songs: The Twist, Kung Fu fighting, Grease Lightning, Mamma Mia, Thriller, Macarena, Fresh Prince of Bel air and You Don’t Know Your Beautiful each run for 40 seconds (approx.)

In each small section 3-4 children come to the front of stage and others perform behind them

Finale:

Whole group doing whole rendition of Change your Life (approx. 3minutes)
