Otterbein University Course Evaluation Procedures

The link to the online evaluation form will be sent to students during Week 14. Students will have from the Monday of Week 14 until Monday morning of exam weekto complete the course evaluation online. The online evaluation system will close prior to the first exam being given.

National research on the use of online course evaluations has found a consistently lower response when students complete online evaluations on their own. The two most important actions that can increase the response rate are the instructor’s discussion of why course evaluation feedback is important (“Why Do We Evaluate Courses”) and reminders to students to complete the evaluation. Electronic reminders are sent to students, but your personal reminder can make an impact, as well.

INSTRUCTIONS TO THE PROFESSOR IF YOU WILL ASK STUDENTS TO

COMPLETE THE EVALUATION IN-CLASS:

  1. Determine if you can secure a lab classroom during one of your regular class meeting times, or whether all students have access to a mobile device that enables them to access the web. Students can find the link on the Ozone, in the e-mail reminders they have received, or go directly to
  1. Refer to the enclosed “Why Do We Evaluate Courses” and share orally with your class. It is important they know the reason for this process.
  1. Allow a full 15-20 minutes of the class period for the administration of the evaluation. Plan to schedule this appropriately during your class (beginning or end of class are recommended).
  1. Because uniformity of administration is essential and confidentiality must be maintained, the instructor should not be in the room while students complete the survey online.
  1. At the end of the semester, after your grades are in, the evaluation results will be distributed to you.

INSTRUCTIONS TO THE PROFESSOR IF STUDENTS WILL BE COMPLETING ON THEIR OWN:

  1. At the beginning of the evaluation period, please take two minutes in class to read “Why Do We Evaluate Courses”.
  1. Half-way through the evaluation period, please remind students that these course evaluations are critical and encourage them to complete these before the end of the semester.
  1. In the last regular class meeting, remind students one more time of the importance of their responses to the Course evaluation process. You are certainly encouraged to thank them for their honest and constructive feedback.
  1. At the end of the semester, after your grades are in, the evaluation results will be distributed to you.
