Program Overview: / This AmeriCorps member will assist the Outreach Coordinator to meet the marketing, PR and Volunteer program goals of One Roof. This agency depends upon community involvement as well as individual volunteers to sustain its programs and services, including the planning and execution of One Roof's four main events: Point in Time, Cardboard Connect, Project Homeless Connect and National Homeless Awareness Week (including volunteer recruitment for each of these events). This member will research best practices in all areas of One Roof service, will assume management of a developing internship program, will assist with research groups onsite at One Roof (such as the current School of Nursing Group) and will develop methods of applying group results to One Roof programming.
Essential Function(s): / Must have computer proficiency whether by manual dexterity or assisted means.
Must be able to hear clients/volunteers calling on the phone and to speak clearly to facilitate efficient client/volunteer interaction.
Must be able to interact with diverse clients/volunteers face-to-face. to walk for several hours on uneven ground in possibly inclement weather (Point in Time is outside the end of January)
Must be comfortable recruiting, training and managing small to medium-sized groups of volunteers.
Marginal Function(s): / Must be social media savvy, may occasionally be asked to take photographs or film video for such media.
Academic and Experience Qualifications: / Undergraduate degree required, advanced degree preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: / Excellent organizational and administrative skills, a passion and capacity for service that improves opportunities for those in greatest need.
Public speaking experience a plus but not required.
Working knowledge of social media, excellent research and writing skills, excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
Ability to complete self-directed project and prioritize tasks independently.
Flexibility and ability to handle multiple tasks.
Physical, Emotional, and Intellectual Demands: / Must be able to sit/stand 7+ hours daily, converse 7+ hours daily and have vision strong enough to read a computer screen (with an assistive device if necessary) and type 7+ hours daily.
Must own, be insured, and be able to drive a vehicle. Must be able to walk for several hours on uneven ground in possibly inclement weather (Point in Time is outside the end of January).
Must be intellectually and emotionally mature enough to interact with mentally diverse, medically diverse, racially and ethnically diverse clients and volunteers, including those who have fluid gender identity.
Must be able to interact calmly and professionally with people in distress.
Must be able to relate compassionately with people of all backgrounds. Must possess excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
