Notification of Ministry of Public Health

(No.221) B.E. 2544(2001)

Re : Prescribing Types of Foods for which Food Serial Number is required on the Label

Whereas it is deemed appropriate to prescribe food serial number on the label in according to the Notification of Ministry of Public Health (No.194) B.E.2543(2000) Re : Labelling.

By virtue of Section 5 and Section 6(10) of the Food Act B.E.2522(1979) concerning the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand of Sections 29, 35, 48 and 50, the Minister of Public Health hereby issues a notification as follows:

Clause1Certain types of foods for which food serial number is required on the label are as follows:

(1)Food Colour

(2)Cow’s Milk

(3)Flavoured Milk

(4)Milk Products

(5)Food Enhancers

(6)Sour Milk

(7)Ice

(8)Food Additives

(9)Food for Weight Control

(10)Food in Sealed Container

(11)Modified Milk for Infant and Young Children

(12)Modified Food for Infant and Young Children

(13)Supplementary Food for Infant and Young Children

(14)Drinking Water in Sealed Container

(15)Ice-Cream

(16)Palm Oil

(17)Coconut Oil

(18)Peanut Oil

(19)Chocolate

(20)Fortified Rice

(21)Butter

(22)Fermented Egg

(23)Ghee

(24)Husked Rice Flour

(25)Food for Special Purpose

(26)Processed Agar and Jelly

(27)Garlic Products

(28)Food Containing Substances Used to Preserve Quality or Standard in Containers Thereof

(29)Food Containing Aloe Vera

(30)Chewing Gum and Candy

(31)Bread

(32)Flavouring Agent

(33)Cooking Brine

(34)Irradiated Food

Clause2This notification

(1)Not affect to the licences for food registration issued under the notification concerned prior to the enforcement of this ministerial notification still be valid.

(2)Licences for food registration of special controlled food which are modified to be as food prescribed quality or standard or licences for food labelling issued under the Notification of Ministry of Public Health (No.68) B.E.2525(1982) Re: Label dated 29 April B.E.2525(1982) Amendment of the Notification of Ministry of Public Health (No.95) B.E.2528(1985) Re : Label (No.2) dated 30 September B.E.2528(1985) and the notification concerned prior to the enforcement of this ministerial notification will be valid for not more than 2 years.

Clause3Manufacturers, importers who received licences prior to the enforcement of this ministerial notification must apply for food serial number within one year after this ministerial notification comes into force. Upon submitting the application, the existing labels can still be valid for not more than 2 years.

Clause4This Notification shall come into force upon 24 July B.E.2544(2001).
