Dystopia Final Project

The most common dystopian trait is a protagonist that questions society, and usually fights against the people in charge. For this final, you will create a police report on the main character, showing the crimes they commit against the government/system of power. This report can be typed, presented through powerpoint, or created as an infographic through Piktochart. If you choose powerpoint or infographic, please email the final result to me. , with the subject “NAME Dystopia Project.”

Jonas Police Report

Late in the night the suspect, Jonas, Receiver-in-training, left the community with stolen food, a bicycle, and a newchild.

Several months ago, Jonas was selected to become the new Receiver (Lowry 76). As part of that training, he had several sessions all alone with our current Receiver, who was old and needed release. The Giver gave Jonas memories, and instead of holding those memories for the community, Jonas asked, “Why do I have to hold these memories?” (Lowry 139). After seeing what happens during the releasing ceremony, Jonas decided to run away (Lowry 187). Earlier, his father had taken home a newchild, Gabriel, to raise to “enhance his nurturing” (Lowry 15). When the newchild failed to properly sleep, it was voted to release him. Jonas decided to take the newchild with him and flee from society (Lowry 207). Thanks to these awful deeds, Jonas needs to be found immediately and released.

Look for these symbols/objects during the search for Jonas. They might lead to his whereabouts:

The Color Red = Difference, separation from normal life. /
The River = The border of the community. /
Newchild Gabriel = Hope in a new kind of life.

The suspect’s last known location is approximately 100km outside the community, at the snow-covered hill outside of the forbidden regions.
