Please continue to ask your student to demonstrate the letters and sounds they practiced this week. Please continue to practice the letters or site words with your student that was sent home last week. I encourage you to have your students show you the way we practiced the short /a/,/t/, and /m/ sound with the PALS “Lesson 2” sheet. Students also worked on the concept of words. They identified short and long words and counted words using the book Itsy Bitsy Spider and word games.

Students used the Orton-Gillingham based activities to work on reading and applying the r-control vowel teams ‘ar’ and ‘or’. Students created, wrote, and read words using ‘ar’. The nonfiction passage, The Bald Eagle, was read, analyzed, and discussed to promote students’ vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. Students are also recognizing words with prefixes and suffixes in their reading passages. The meaning of the word is then discussed and displayed on our reading wall. (Be sure to ask your student about our dog dishes.) 
