SCHOOL ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING

March 21, 2017

5:00 P.M. ~ Media Center

  1. Welcome/Call to Order- Ms. Mentore calls the meeting to order at 5:15 p.m.
  1. Reading of the minutes from February- Mrs. Kelly makes a motion to approve the minutes. Minutes were approved as read.
  1. Principal’s Update- Ms. Morales informs the committee members of the updates she received at the principal’s meeting.Ms. Morales was informed that beginning next school year,reading classes will only be required for students who score a level 1 or level 2 on the Florida Standards Assessments in English Language Arts. Recent updates have also required students who previously scored level 1 or level 2 to be enrolled in a reading class.The new proposed 4 by 4 block schedule for the upcoming school year will allow students to take multiple electives, including the required reading classes.Ms. Morales then details the budget she received for the 2017-2018 school year. She informs the committee of the amount of funds allocated to each category as well the decrease in this year’s budget in comparison to last year. Lifeworks Leadership of South Florida will provide the staff with an appreciation lunch and team building activities thisupcoming early release day.
  1. School-Wide Positive Behavior Plan - Ms. Mentore and Ms. Bonny present information regarding the School-wide Positive Behavior Plan for the 2017-2018 school year. The presentation details the expectations and rules that will be set in place for students. The presentation also provided an overview of the lesson plans that teachers will use to instruct students on the expected behaviors.
  1. Science Department Presentation - Ms. Bonny presents information about the strides being taken in the Science Department. She discusses the new curriculum that she developed, Cavaliers Achieving in Science, C.A.I.S, which focuses on the use of student Broward Standards Assessment data to drive instruction. Students are able to analyze their own performance data and then complete a range of activities/lessons that cater to their specific needs.

  1. Adjournment- Mrs. Kelly makes a motion to adjourn the meeting and Ms. Knowles seconds. The meeting is adjourned at 5:45 pm.
