"NATIONAL SOCIETY OF THE GREEK AUTHORS"

The National Society of Greek Authors was established in 1946 by a team of intellectual persons.

It includes a number of well-know authors - writers and poets. The most famous representatives of the Greek intellectual life had been its members:

Stratis Myrivilis, George Theotokas, Elias Venezis, Angelos Terzakis, Panagiotis Kanellopoulos, Linos Karzis, Constantiinos Tsatsos (ex President of Democracy), Helen and Costas Ouranis, Thanassis Petsalis-Diomidis, M.Karagatsis, Michael Stasinopoulos (ex President of Democracy) and a lot of others.

Today -in the year 1997- it includes:

Six distinguished persons of the Greek Academy:

·  Michalis Stassinopoulos (ex President of Democracy)

·  Solon Kydoniatis

·  Apostolos Sachinis

·  Galatia Saranti (the first Greek Academician lady).

Fifteen University Professors, one Minister of Culture, two members of Parliament, twelve

journalists and a great number of the most famous Greek poets and writers. It continually works for

the progress and developemen of the immortal Greek literary spirit.

AGGELIDOU KLAIRI was born in Famagusta in 1932. She studied Literature at the University of Athens. Mostly a poet, she has also published two treatises: “Eleni Hadjipetrou, A life in Education”, "Robert Tristan Coffin”.

In May 1991 she was elected member of Parliament as meritorious candidate of the Democratic Rally and in February 1993 she was appointed Minister of Education in the Government of Glafkos Clerides. On her own initiative the Ministery of Education became Ministry of Education and Culture.

ALEXAKIS ORESTIS is born in 1931 in Corfu. He is a poet.

ANAGNOSTOU G. TASOS.

(Poet, short story writer, essay writer,critical)

Tasos G. Anagnostou was born in Athens. He studied law and philosophy.

(Till 1956 when he printed his first book, has cooperated in many newspapers and magazines. He gave many lectures, practising for years book criticism and theatre, in valid printed matters - greek and foreign).

He is member of International Company of Literature Criticals, in Paris, and National Society of Greek Authors. President of the Literary and Archaeological Part of Historical Society “Parnassus”, and in many others Literaries Clubs.

Tasos TG. Anagnostou has been translated at the most foreign languages. ARVANITIS T. NIKOS (1928- ).

Writer (poet-autor).

Nikos Arvanitis has studied Political Sciences in Athens. His first career was in the area of public administration. Hehas been Director of Cinematography and General Director at the Ministry of Industry. He showed a genuine interest in and got himiself engaged with literature from an early age. He published poems, narratives, novels, essays, articles, research papers and literary critism. He is Head Director of the “Kinonikes Tlomes” (Social Incisions) periodical. He is subsciber and Chairman of the Hellenic Company of Cristian Letters. Nikos Arvanitis is a member of the National Association of Greek Writers, the Union of Critics of Cinematography of Athens and other intellectual Comities and unions.

ATHANASSIADIS TASSOS

Member of the Greek Academy.

Tassos Athanassiadis was born in 1913 in Salichli, a town near Izmir, Asia Minor. In 1922, after the events which drive the Greek Population away from Asia Minor, he came to Athens as a refugie. He read the Law at the National University of Athens and practiced it for a few years. He became, in succession, general Secretary, Theatre Director of the Greek National Theatre, and President of the Board of the Greek National Opera.

He has received the greatest number of literary awards and prizes ever conferred upon a Greek author, including five Greek State Prizes, and two Athens Academy ones. In 1988 he was awarded the “Ipeksi” Prize of Greek and Turkish détente for his novel “The Children of Niobe”. He was also honoured with the Cross of Grand Officer of Phoenix by the President of Greek Democracy and recently with the Great Prize Herder of Germany.

Some of his works have been translated into French, Swedish, Italian, Portiguese, German.

He is a member of the National Society of Greek Authors and since 1986 full Member of the Athens Academy, depertment of Modern Greek Arts and Letters.
