Volunteer Position / Adult Summer Recreation Program Assistant
Park / Neighborhood Parks, Parks and Recreation Division- Boulevard Gardens Community Center, Franklin Park, Lafayette Hart Park, Reverend Samuel Delevoe Park, Roosevelt Gardens Park, and Sunview Park.
Description of work involved / Assist with the setup, conducting, and cleanup of activities including, but not limited to, special events, sports games, arts and crafts, etc. Adult volunteers will also assist staffwith chaperoning field trips for the Summer Recreation Program as well as light maintenance and clerical duties.
Hours volunteers can work / Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
Level of difficulty
1=easy
5=physically demanding / 3
Skills required / Must demonstrate leadership skills and exemplary responsibility. Must be able to work with youth and the public.
Shady or full sun area / Program is conducted indoors and outdoors. Some shaded areas are provided outdoors.
Access to restroom facilities / Restrooms within walking distance.
How many volunteers are needed for this project?
Individuals
Small Group-up to 30
Large Group-over 30 / Individuals.
How often do volunteers need to work on site? / Mondays-Fridays, ongoing basis for summer.
Tools and equipment provided / The park will provide all necessary tools and/or equipment.
Tools volunteers can bring if desired / N/A
Personal items to bring / Sunscreen, hat, insect repellent, closed-toe shoes, water, lunch, and snack. Volunteers will be required to wear shirts provided by the park on field trip days.
Personal Protective Equipment will be provided as needed / We will provide personal protective equipment as neededand instruct in proper use.
Project Start Date / June 20,2016
Project Completion Deadline / August 12, 2016
Duration of program / Eight weeks.
Volunteer Application Deadline / Two weeks from submission date for approval and background check. Ongoing volunteers need to fill out the Volunteer Application, which includes the background check.
Orientation/Training / Volunteers must attend an initial training, which will take place on the first day.

  • Excellent opportunity for students in the community to give back. Will satisfy community service hours required for high school students, for various scholarships opportunities, and club/organization requirements.
  • Additionally this is an excellent opportunity for anyone to share their knowledge, expertise, and most important, their time to give back to the community through volunteer work.
