  • Course Description:

Anatomy and physiology is a discussion and laboratory based study of the human body. It can be very beneficial for students interested in science-related fields. The study will range from molecules, cells, body systems, and processes.

  • Content and Objectives:
  • Conscientiously become more scientifically literate in matters related to human biology, anatomy and physiology in health and disease
  • Actively ask, find, determine answers related to human anatomy and physiology in health and disease
  • Carefully describe, explain, and predict consequences based on knowledge (prior and that to be acquired in this class) of the human body in health and disease
  • Critically analyze articles about human anatomy and physiology in health and disease in the popular press
  • Accurately organize, analyze, and communicate information about the human body in health and disease
  • Perceptively discuss risk factors for maintaining health and preventing disease
  • Course Expectations:
  1. Students are expected to demonstrate respect toward teachers, peers, and the school district.
  2. Students need to arrive on time and be prepared for class. Being prepared for class may include having assignments/handouts, textbook, writing instrument, anatomy and physiology binder, notebook, and folder.
  3. Students are to follow classroom rules and rules as outlined in the school handbook. Follow all other school rules and policies!!!
  4. Restroom privileges are restricted to the first and last 3 minutes of the period (special considerations given).
  5. Student pathfinder MUST be signed in order to leave class.
  6. Students will sit in assigned seats.
  7. Please let the teacher know if you are going to miss class OR if you have missed a class.
  8. Listening to headphones, eating, drinking, and use of any cellular devices are not allowed in the classroom (unless teacher discretion).
  9. Follow all directions the first time they are given.
  10. Failure to meet expectations and rules will result in a short training session (detention) where the skill/rule that was broken is practiced. Training sessions (detention) will take place on student time. These sessions may last from 30 seconds – one hour
  • Grading:
  • All points will be added together and converted into a percentage.
  • Points may be earned through tests, writing assignments, labs, homework, folder checks, rubrics, peer assessments, and other assessments.
  • Missed work must be made up as soon as possible in accordance with school district policy. You will have the same number of classes to make up the work as were missed for an excused absence. Failure to make up the work may result in a zero for that work. If a student misses a quiz or reading/writing assignment, it is his/her responsibility to make arrangements to make it up.
  • Lab makeup may consist of an alternative activity, but all missed labs will need to be made-up.
  • It is the responsibility of the student to keep all graded assignments in case of a grade discrepancy.
  • Extra credit may be given throughout the school year.
