Classroom Guidelines

  • Be on time

We will begin class with a warm-up or homework questions. Be in your seat ready to work when class starts.

  • Come prepared for class

Come to class prepared with your homework and all necessary class materials.

  • Be productive during class

Take notes, participate in class discussions, and work efficiently during group assignments.

  • Respect yourself, your peers, and your teacher

We can function effectively as a group and create a safe environment for learning if we base our actions in the classroom on one underlying principle…RESPECT! This includes respecting yourselfand your right to learn and respecting others andtheir right to learn. No cell phones or electronic equipment are permitted during class. I expect all students, along with the teacher, to respect whomever is speaking by giving them complete attention without any interruptions.

Textbook

We will be using the Mathematics Vision Project, available online, and will be supplying students with the corresponding material. I highly recommend parents watch the presentation available on the MVP website where the author describes the development of this program.

Tests

Tests will be given at the end of each chapter. If a test is missed because of an excused absence, it is your responsibility to see me and set a date for a make-up test within one week of your return to class. If the test is not made up during that time, you may receive a failing grade for that test. There will be no make-ups for any unexcused absences.

Homework

Homework will be assigned daily. These assignments will be collected in the following meeting day after they are assigned. Homework is worth 10 points with 7 points given for completenessand your ability to show all of your work neatly and 3 points for accuracy (from 3 randomly chosen homework problems). Homework turned in not complete or without the required shown work will be given a “zero” grade.

Notebook

You will need a geometry section in your notebook containing 4 dividers labeled:

  • Notes
  • Homework
  • Tests
  • Constructions

Quizzes

Quizzes will be given periodically reflecting problems from the homework assignments. If a quiz is missed because of an excused absence, it is your responsibility to see me and set a date for a make-up quiz within one week of your returning to class. If the quiz is not made up during that time, you may receive a failing grade for that quiz. There will be no make-ups for any unexcused absences.
