The Mordialloc Neighbourhood House has an open door to the community providing a meeting place for groups, educational and recreational activities for adults and children in a safe and friendly environment. The House is a not-for-profit community based organisation and is governed by a volunteer Committee of Governance.

& Experience:Previous experience on community based Committees of Governance an advantage.

Prime Purpose

of Position:The main role of the General Committee Member is to ensure the Office Bearers; President (Chairperson), Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary carry out their roles and responsibilities and support them within their roles.

Specific Duties:Attend the monthly Committee of Governance meetings and other activities as required.

General Responsibilities:

  • Understand their responsibilities and perform their duties to the best of their abilities
  • Are required to read the information sheets provided on:
  • Incorporation
  • Members, board of management and constitution
  • Board basics
  • Act with due care and diligence, in the best interests of the organisation (fiduciary duty)
  • Work to ensure that:
  • The aims and objectives of the organisation are pursued
  • The rules of the organisation (it’s constitution) are followed
  • The business of the organisation is conducted honestly
  • The organisation complies with all laws and any contractual obligations
  • Declare any personal interest that might conflict with the interest of the organisation or their fiduciary duty
  • Keep informed about the organisation’s business
  • Take an active part in the Committee of Governance meetings.
  • Support Office Bearers; President (Chairperson), Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary carry out their roles and responsibilities and support them within their roles.
  • Membersare also required to:
  • Attend all meetings
  • Be punctual and have read minutes, agenda’s and background papers before the Committee of Governance meetings.
  • If unable to attend a meeting due to other commitments or circumstances, be responsible, as per the constitution, to put in their apologies prior to the meeting.
  • Participate in the organisation’s planning and evaluation process.
  • Work as a part of a committed team with other Committee of Governance members.
  • Sign and maintain the confidentiality policy of the organisation.
  • Keep informed about issues affecting the organisation
  • And any other duties that pertain to the effective delivery of services by the organisation that is agreed upon within the Committee of Governance meetings.

Specific Duties:

  • To work closely with the Committee and Manager to identify, plan and implement fundraising activities
  • Identify ways of raising funds and to take action to help secure this funding by talking to companies on the telephone, internet research and by liaising with local schools and community groups
  • To support all fundraising activities for the House
  • Negotiate dates and times for all events with the Manager
  • To attend all fundraising events and support the activities
  • Develop promotional and marketing resources specific to the fundraising event
  • Assist in the administration requirements for the events/activities
  • Contribute and collaborate on ideas for the continuous improvement of fundraising activities and events
  • Previous fundraising experience would be a bonus
  • Commitment to work in compliance with policies and procedures

Days and Hours:

  • Third Monday of each month (except January)
  • Other times to be negotiated

Mandatory:

  • Current Police Check and current Working with Children Check
  • Signing of a Confidentiality Agreement
