CENTRAL MISSOURI ENA CHAPTER REPORT
Saturday May 17, 2014
Our chapter is progressing in making all the arrangements for our September 25 Emergency Nursing Update seminar. We are ahead of where we were at this time last year. We have also committed to having an Emergency Nurses Week celebration, although it may not be during Emergency Nurses Week itself because many nurses will be at the National Annual Assembly.
We had a CEN Review course in January that was very well attended. In spite of our financial goal of trying to break even, we ended up with a positive balance of $3,421 because of the number of registrations we had. We are grateful to Pat Clutter for her work in making this such a successful course.
We have been meeting monthly we have had short (15-30 minute) educational presentations at the majority of our meetings over the past 12 months. These have been quite informative and interesting and have been greatly appreciated by the members. Our chapter members create and give these presentations themselves on a voluntary basis and so far they have done it without any arm-twisting or pressure.
We decided in February to promote meeting attendance by announcing to all our members that we will sponsor two members for registration to the National Scientific Assembly, and in March we decided to have a separate program to give two members registration for the MOENA CPEN Review course this July. Members have their names entered into a hat for each drawing every time they attend a meeting. The CPEN Review names were drawn at the May meeting, while the Scientific Assembly names will be drawn at the July meeting. By getting one’s name added at each meeting attended, members can increase their chances of winning by attending more meetings.
We are looking forward to an active and busy remainder of the year!

May Chapter Report for Heartland ENA
May 2014
As of this date Beth and I continue to manage the chapter to the best of our abilities. Many topics remain in waiting due to low participation and lack of meeting attendance. All of Heartland Chapter meetings have been canceled due to lack of attendance. We continue to brainstorm ideas to boost membership and activity.
Typically we schedule 4 TNCC classes a year and have canceled at least one due to lack of participation. This year I traveled to Chester Memorial Hospital in March and taught TNCC for 11 participants. They were eager and expressed great interest and excitement with the class.
Heartland will be hosting TNCC on July 17/18 in Farmington and in Ironton Oct 20/21.
Because of our TNCC classes we have been able to amass some funds in our account. I sent out an email with a preliminary budget showing the projected revenue from upcoming TNCC class as well as propositions for monies to be allocated to membership and PR. This was able to pass with votes from existing members to allow some functioning of the smaller sect of the chapter to promote membership.
As of this date the active members of Heartland chapter continue to promote ENA and participation as much as possible but continue to run into roadblocks.
Prospects for the fall are to focus on the Battle of the Belt initiative and isolate a cause within our communities.
Kansas City
Spring Training Seminar occurred in March, somewhat of low turnout, but those that attended pleased with offering. ENA membership, CEN review and next year Spring Training scholarships awarded.
Chapter will be sponsoring 7th edition TNCC Mary 27course/instructor & 28th for the purpose of increasing instructor numbers. The instructor class will then be held on May 29th. Course is almost full. Four Critical Assess hospitals are sending nurses.
Chapter will be co-sponsoring with North Kansas City Hospital a CEN review Aug with Pat Clutter

I.1st and 2nd Meetings:

We had our first meeting on February 10, 2014 at 6:30pm at Celebrations, downtown Cape Girardeau, with Dr. John Moll, General Surgeon, presenting “The World’s Most Interesting Disease—Appendicitis.” The meeting was sponsored by SoutheastHEALTH, and we had several nursing students in attendance, as well as members. We voted to have a business meeting just before our next meeting to discuss/vote on Bylaws/SOPs. It was mentioned we need more instructors for TNCC and ENPC. A motion was made and approved to sponsor 4 ENA nurses to attend the Midwest Pediatric Trauma Conference May 2, 2014 in St. Charles, MO.

Our second meeting of the year was April 16, 2014 at 7pm at Beef O’Brady’s. Minutes from the first meeting were approved as well as the treasurer’s report. We had 6 members and 2 student nurses in attendance. A motion was made and approved to keep the Bylaws of the SEMO ENA Chapter and SOPs as is. We discussed the membership drive and where to mail memberships. A motion was also made and approved to pay for up to 4 active ENA members to attend the 2014 Midwest Pediatric Trauma Conference on May 2, 2014 in St. Charles, MO—and if any more would like to attend, divvy the $320 between them. We discussed future 2014 Meeting Dates/Times/Locations:

June 18th @ 1730 @ Beef O’Brady’s
August 20th @ 1900 TBA
October 15th @ 1730 TBA
December 17th @ 1800 TBA
Several suggestions were made regarding possible sponsors/educational opportunities for our meetings: Genentech rep., Cardene rep., Teflaro, etc.
Southeast has several helmets and car seats provided by a Safe Communities Grant for the SEMO Chapter of ENA; we will be getting more this year, and possibly next year. It was decided these car seats and helmets would be shared with St. Francis since they are the trauma center, and SEMO Chapter of ENA could look into providing community education/outreach regarding helmets/car seats this summer.

II.Next Meeting:

Our next meeting will be at 5:30pm on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Beef O’Brady’s in Cape Girardeau.
  1. Future Plans:
  • Increase membership and participation (Reach out to other area EDs)
  • Identify/Request sponsorships for meetings and events
  • Continue with TNCC/ENPC classes and seek more instructors
  • Provide outreach/education to area communities regarding helmets/car seats

Ozark Chapter Report
ENA Chapter report May 2014
Our chapter has been quite busy the past quarter, and has some great things coming up.
We held our 5th Annual ENA conference on February 28th which was a great success; it offered a variety of CEU’s to include stroke, both adult and pediatric trauma and a lecture about nursing leadership. This year’s attendance was down from past years; however we are still very happy with the outcome.
We recently had the pleasure of purchasing an AED for the Salvation Army that serves as a shelter for homeless men.
We also were able to purchase life jackets for the Tri-Lakes Safety Fair in Branson. This provided injury prevention and water safety education to kids. With money that was matched by 360, The Ozark Chapter was able to help 52 children obtain life jackets for this summer.
For our May meeting the chapter offered an educational opportunity. Captain David Millsap from the Criminal Investigative unit with Springfield Police department spoke about the Lethality of Domestic Violence.
We obtained 11 new members through the membership drive in April several renewals.
Coming up we have our annual “picnic in the park” in July 8. At this meeting we invite all of our families who support us so much to enjoy a night of fun and fellowship.
We continue to have both TNCC and ENPC courses held at Cox and Mercy. Our fist 7th edition TNCC class will be held June 23-24.
Greater Saint Louis Chapter Report
January 1- May 1, 2014
As part of our ongoing strategic planning we distributed our 2014 activity plan at the January meeting. This is a guide for us to stay on track. For new members, we want to share our meeting schedule for 2014. All meetings will be held the 2nd Tuesday of each month at DesPeres Hospital starting at 5:30pm in the Community Education Room on the ground floor.
The education committee submitted a proposal in December to host a CPEN Review Class in May, 2014. We were asked by the State Council to postpone the class since they wanted to host the course in place of a conference for MOENA in July. After discussion at the January meeting we cancelled our plans to host the course in order not to be in competition with the state education committee.
The STL Chapter ENA attended Nurse Lobby Day at the Capital in Jefferson City on February 19th. Also several members have attended the State Advisory Council of EMS in discussion regarding the role of the Community Paramedic and the programs impact on community care.
The chapter also plans to participate in “Strike Out For Stroke” August 31st at Busch Stadium. ENA members and their families will be handing out information on stroke identification and prevention.
We are excited to join the March of Dimes in their annual state-wide nurse of the year banquet. Our chapter lobbied for the category of Emergency Nurse and a position on their Board. This is the first year that emergency nursing has been given its own award category. In the past, it was included as part of the Med-Surg Nursing category. Joan Eberhardt will represent us as a Board Member.
The STL Chapter has donated $750.00 in support of the Missouri EMS Funeral Response Team. This team responds to all EMS related funerals state-wide to provide support to families of fallen EMS workers.
Our membership for the STL area is holding at around 200 members.

Jeannie F / Update on the web site, had a request regarding members only area for the web site. Jeannie wondered if this was really a need, it would mean someone maintaining a data base which.
Jeannie requested committee members send her their email contact information.
TalkFusion is not working again. Helen stated this had been paid, and she will follow up with them. Chapters report also having issues with use. Tammy would also like to explore just using Skype

ENPC Updates
Just a reminder…………….ENPC Provider Manuals shipped after December 18, 2013, no longer require an errata sheet. The new manuals say ”Updated, November 2013” on the cover.
There is a newly revised ENPC exam set. The exams are to be used in all future courses and are available in the “course director” only section of the website. Please discard all previous exams.
TNCC Updates
Progress on the TNCC Instructor update………………………..currently, just over 2400 TNCC Instructors have taken the TNCC update test with an encouraging 98.9% pass rate.
Please remember that if you have an IC who took a 6th edition instructor course, they will have to be monitored in a 6th edition Provider Course. Once the IC has been monitored, they may then access and complete the update to the 7th edition.
A newly revised agenda has been posted to the “Course Director’s” only section on the website. This was changed after receiving feedback that the 7th edition agenda initially published created some confusion over the timing of the written test and TNP stations.
TNCC 7th Edition Launch Dates
*All 6th edition TNCC Instructors must be updated by June 30, 2014.
*No TNCC 6th edition courses can be held after June 30, 2014
ENPC update; new manuals shipped after Dec 13th are corrected and no longer need the errata sheet.
Revised ENPC exam sets, go on line and down load the new exams, old versions should no longer be used, and should be destroyed.
TNCC 2400 instructors have taken the new test and 98% pass rate. IC 6th edition need to be monitored in a 6th edition course. Once this has completed, they will receive the update to the 7th edition.
