Modifying data sources

If you do not want to use the default data warehouse, you can change the connection string to point to the new data source.

1.  Open the Cognos administration page by clicking Launch > IBM Cognos Administration.

2.  Click the Configuration tab and then click Data Source Connections to display a list of data sources.

3.  Click RIDW.

4.  In the Actions column, click the Set properties icon.

5.  Click the Connection tab. If you want to change the data source type, click an item in the Type dropdown list.

6.  To modify the connection string, click the edit .

7.  In the DB2 database name field, replace the text sampledw with RIDW.

8.  In the DB2 connect string field, replace the parameter, sampledw,with RIDW.

9.  Click OK.

Setting up and Running an ETL catalog

To set up and run and ETL catalog:

1.  Create a new database and name it RICTG:

a.  If you are using DB2, launch the DB2 Control Center by clicking Start > All Programs > IBM DB2 > DB2 copy 1 > general admin tools > Control Center.

b.  Navigate to the existing database. Then, right-click and select Create new database standard.

c.  In the Name field, type RICTG for the database name, and then click Finish.

d.  After the database is created, click OK.

2.  Connect to the database in Data Manager:

a.  Launch the Data Manager tool.

b.  Click Create a new catalog, and type RICTG for the catalog name. Then, click Next.

c.  For the DB alias, type RICTG.

d.  Type the username and password of a user with the proper credentials to access the database. Then, click Finish.

3.  Restore the OOTB Catalog in Data Manager:

a.  Open the restore catalog by click File > Restore Catalog.

b.  Navigate to \datamgr\Insight_catalog\ OOTBDMCatalog.ctg, and click OK.

4.  Verify the Data source connection for RQM:

a.  Navigate to the connections.

b.  Double-click Rational Quality Manager.

c.  Click the Connections tab. Then, click test connection. Leave the username and password blank.

5.  Verify Data Warehouse connection:

a.  Double-click Rational Data Warehouse.

b.  Click the Connection tab, correct the username and password, and then click test connection.

6.  Update ETL jobs:

a.  In the Data Manager, click Jobs > OOTBE2E. This represents end-to-end jobs. Remove the other ETL step because you are only using RQM.

b.  Delete all icons except Start, RQMAll, and Build_Star.

c.  From the toolbar, click the Insert a link icon, and connect the remaining parts.

d.  In the jobs folder, open the StarJobs folder, and click the Facts job.

e.  In the right pane, double-click the fact build node, F_JOB_EXECUTION_DATE_METRICS.

f.  At the bottom of the general tab, select Exclude this node from processing.

7.  Run the ETL task:

a.  From the toolbar, click the Save icon.

b.  From the toolbar, click the Run icon.

8.  Publish the Data movement task:

a.  Select the OOTBE2E job in Data Manager.

b.  Click Actions > Publish Data Movement Task.

c.  Click Jobs > OOTBE2E. Then, click OK.

To see the new directory, datamovementtasks, login to Rational® Quality Manager Custom Reporting.

Changing database users

Administrators can change which users have access to the Rational® Quality Manager Custom Reporting database.

To change a database user:

1.  Open the Cognos Web application at http://server:port/insight/servlet/dispatch.

2.  Open the Cognos administration page by clicking Launch > IBM Cognos Administration.

3.  Click the Configuration tab.

4.  In the left pane, click Data Source Connections.

5.  Under the Name column, click RIDW.

6.  On the next page, click RIDW again. Under the Name column, rptuser now displays.

7.  Under the Actions column, click More.

8.  Click Set Properties.

9.  Click the Signon tab, then click Edit the signon.

10. In the User ID and Password fields, type the authentication information for a user with access to the RIDW database.

11. Click OK.

Importing reports into Rational Quality Manager Custom Reporting

Note: The RQM-CR-2.0Beta2-Reports.zip file is available on the All Downloads page.

You can import archived reports into Rational® Quality Manager Custom Reporting.

To import reports:

1.  Add the RQM-CR-2.0Beta2-Reports.zip file in the cognos/deployment/ folder of the install.

2.  Open the Cognos administration page by clicking Launch > IBM Cognos Administration.

3.  Click the Configuration tab.

4.  In the left panel, click Content Administration.

5.  From the toolbar in the upper, right corner of the page, click the New Import icon.

6.  On the Select a deployment archive page, select RQM-CR-2.0Beta2-Reports, and then click Next.

7.  On the Specify a name and description page, type a name for the import in the Name field. Then, click Next.

8.  On the Select the public folders content page, select the checkbox next to Rational Quality Manager. Under the Options section, leave the defaults for all radio buttons, and click Next.

9.  On the Select the directory content page, leave the defaults for all check boxes and radio buttons, and click Next.

10. On the Summary page, confirm the settings, and click Next.

11. On the Select an action page, select Save and run once, and click Finish.

12. On the Run with options page, select Now to immediately import the reports, or select Later and schedule a future date and time to run the import. Then, click Run.

13. If you want to view the details of the import, select View the details of this import after closing this dialog, and click OK.

The reports are imported into Custom Reporting.

Importing custom reports into Rational Quality Manager

Rational® Quality Manager allows you to work with the custom reports.

Before importing reports, you must first set up the report host server.

1.  To set up the report host server:

a.  Go to Admin > System Properties, and click Custom Reporting Host Properties.

b.  Type the host name, port number, and your user ID and password.

c.  Click Save.

2.  Point to the Reports () icon, and click All Reports.

3.  From the toolbar, click the Import Custom Report () icon.

4.  In the Import Report window, click Browse to locate the Cognos report.

5.  Open the Cognos Reports files, and then open Rational Quality Manager.

6.  Open the report category folder, select the report, and click OK.

7.  Type a name and description to assign to the imported report.

8.  Select Shared to save the report to the Shared Reports folder, and then click OK.

The report is now imported into Rational Quality Manager.
