Model High School Spanish 2 2012-2013

ModelHigh School Spanish 3, español III 2013-2014

Teacher – Sra. Ellen Dunn

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Students will continue building Spanish proficiency by furthering their understanding of vocabulary and grammar necessary to read, write, speak and understand Spanish at a beginning intermediate proficiency level to an expanding level. As per the state foreign language guidelines, we will also study culture and use Spanish to connect with the curriculum of other courses. Delving into varied texts will comprise part of the Spanish curriculum.

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS:

  1. Students are expected to keepa binder (1”) containing all class notes and handouts to be used for studying purposes and reference during class. Please purchase a spiral notebook (70 sheets) to be used as a Spanish portfolio throughout the year. Sticky tabs for organizing the notebook sections are also needed.
  2. Students will be expected to turn in all class work assigned on time. Students are expected to do their own work. Using a translator, copying or letting someone else copy, and talking during tests could all result in a zero.
  3. When absent, it is the student’s responsibility to ask the teacher for the assignments missed (at the appropriate time, not during class) and to make up the work. This should occur immediately upon the student’s return to school. Please be aware that the longer a student waits to make up a test the lower the grade usually is. Arrangements should be made to stay after school as soon as possible.
  4. Students should spend at least15 minutes a night reviewing what we learned in class. There is a lot of vocabulary, and waiting until the night before a test to study often is not enough. Also, as each concept builds on the previous, it is important for students to keep up and come immediately for tutoring if they’ve been absent or feel they don’t understand. I am available on Tuesday after school for tutoring sessions.
  5. Students are expected to be:

*****Responsible: on time to class, in their seat, prepared with a writing utensil, paper, and

journal/notebook.

*****Respectful: treating others as they would like to be treated, not disrupting the teacher or

fellow classmates.

*****Considerate: maintaining an open mind and attitude toward all languages and cultures.
