Head Volleyball Coach
Job Summary:
To develop principles of fair play, a sense of confidence, and self-discipline through the development and extension of various Volleyball skills as provided by inter-scholastic competition. Plan, guide, and evaluate inter-scholastic athletic experiences designed to contribute to the physiological, psychological, educational and social development of the participants.
Requirements:
  • “BA/BS degree preferred
  • Minimum 4 years of experience as a player and/or coach at the high school or college level.
Position Qualifications
  • Work experience as a player and/or coach; 4 years minimum experience required and evidence of playing and coaching experience as a volleyball player
  • Experience and knowledge of event coordination including transportation, facilities, budgeting, and outreach
  • Demonstration of respect for students and making their success a top priority within a supportive, caring and stimulating environment
  • An open, transparent, and communicative leadership style that will enable him or her to relate well to a wide spectrum of constituencies including parents, students and staff
  • Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written, including the ability to communicate
  • Ability to recruit, retain, train and motivate scholars and assistant coaches
  • Capacity to develop long term plans for the program, equipment and facilities
  • Assign high importance to teamwork, communication and the building of relationships with all members of the school community.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assume responsibility for the oversight of the program including the assisting of evaluating assistant coaches, securing and supervising equipment and facility space, and assisting in arranging for competitions and tournaments.
  • Track student grades, attendance and equipment before, during and after season.
  • Hold study tables 2 times a week, turn in progress reports online, track attendance.
  • Initiate, coordinate, publicize and supervise fund raising activities, events and competitions.
  • Provide inventory of requests for facilities, equipment, maintenance, resource acquisitions to the Athletic Director.
  • Follows and keeps up to date on IHSAA rules and guidelines.
  • Keeps statistics on all student athletes.
  • Communicate with all shareholders (students, parents, teachers, administrators, district personnel) regarding student achievement, publish policies and opportunities and current progress of the programs via athletic meetings, letters, blogging and submission of articles to school newsletters and additional publications.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Principal and Athletic Director.
Language Skills
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, and government regulations. Ability to write reports and team procedures.
  • Ability to write proposals in order to secure funds for the school. Ability to present information and respond to questions effectively from groups of administrators, teachers, school board members, parents, students, and the general public. Ability to communicate using correct grammar.
Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to work with and maintain mathematical concepts such as statistical inference. Ability to prepare a budget proposal.
Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to use available information and develop realistic long-term and short-term plans for curricular goals.
Other Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in athletics specifically your sport. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all corporation, state, and federal requirements.
