Donkey Derby

The PPG Committee held a stall at the Donkey Derby, King George playing field on the Spring bank holiday 25/05/15. The aim was to sell cakes and books to raise money and in the process raise awareness of our PPG.

The weather was kind to us and enabled us to erect a gazebo under which we set up our tables.

When the public were admitted to the field we were immediately kept busy selling cakes and books. The team, comprising mostly committee members, ran the stall in relays to save burn out. Cakes went fairly quickly and the books sold steadily.

When we had to ‘break camp’ at 4pm we had some time to wait, the public having to clear the site, before we were able to bring cars to the pitch and clear our gazebo, tables and the few unsold books.

The day was declared a resounding success and a total of £195 was collected.

All helpers are to be congratulated for their efforts in baking the cakes, collecting the books, arranging the tables, erecting and dismantling the gazebo,

acting as sales staff and, finally upping sticks and going home very wearily.

Other fund-raising events

A 42 inch TV screen was kindly donated by a friend of one of our PPG member’s. Which is about to be installed on the wall, left of the current noticeboard. It will display health promotions; general and clinical information.

The PPG also set up a cake and book sale at

Milestone Surgery to coincide with the annual flu clinics. The volunteers braved the weather and set up outside, in the car park over Saturday 3rd, 17th and 31st October. In total, £225 was raised over the 3 sessions. Again a big Thank you to all who participated.

Important Information for Patients

On 18th November 2015, Milestone Surgery changed clinical computer systems, moving from “Vision” to a system called “EMIS Web”. This system has many enhanced benefits, both for the practice and for our patients.

EMIS Web offer online services through a system called “Patient Access”. This allows patients to:

  • Book or cancel appointments 24/7
  • Request your repeat prescriptions online
  • Update your practice details
  • In time – you will be able to securely view a basic summary of your medical record.

Vanguard Scheme

At the beginning of the year in January 2015, the NHS invited individual organisations and partnerships to apply to become ‘vanguard’ sites for the new care models programme, one of the first steps towards delivering and supporting improvement and integration of services.

In this region the Vanguard programme is a partnership between NHS North East Hampshire and Farnham Clinical Commissioning Group, Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust other public and voluntary organisations and Hampshire and Surrey County Councils and all GP surgeries of the NE Hampshire and Farnham area. Focus is:

  • Prevention and self-care
  • Integrated teams of specialist health and social care professionals
  • Enhanced community services
  • Access into and out of specialist inpatient care

This new model of health and social care is designed by health and care professionals with local people and will look and feel different. This is likely to lead to more “joint up thinking” – interesting times!
