MIDDLEBURY FIGURE SKATING CLUB

Best Guest Guidelines

Entrance: Please enter and exit the building through the entrance doors by the squash courts (behind the athletic facility). If you do not have a college parking permit, you will need to park in a “Visitor” spot.

Supervision: For practices, skaters will use the skate changing room located across from the equipment window. For the safety of our skaters, all minors (under 18 years old) must be accompanied by an adult while when entering and exiting the building, while in the building, and immediately before and after practice. This is a Middlebury College policy. To read the policy, please go to

Meeting Place: All skaters must be supervised by an adult while waiting for practice to start in the skate changing room. Skaters should plan to arrive 15 minutes before their lesson, as it takes time to put on skates.

During practice, parents are welcome to wait in the skate-changing room or to watch from the stands. Parents are the best judge of whether a child will want them to be nearby during practice. Parents are not required to be in the rink during practice. To get to the stands, you may either climb like a monkey from the rink entrance over the metal divider and to the seating area, or you may travel through the building. Although most of the doors to the rink will be locked, the door which is furthest to the LEFT, as you face the hockey rink area, should be unlocked.

During lesson times, non-skaters (parents, siblings) are asked not to use the ice, as this is distracting to the skaters.

Restrooms: There is a restroom inside the changing room, which will be accessible if a coach has unlocked that locker area. There is also a public restroom near the squash court entrance, and there are large public restrooms available upstairs, with access inside the hockey rink.

Food/drink: Is not allowed on the ice or in the skate changing room, but it is allowed in the stands.

Emergency access: There will be times, when college students are on vacation and the college is closed, that the doors to the squash court will be locked. We will try to send an email to let everybody know when this will happen, but in case you are locked out, there is a door to the “Zamboni entrance” which will be unlocked. This is located in the same parking area as the Squash court entrance, but way to the left. As you drive down the hill toward that parking area, there is a part of the building that juts out toward the football field. This is approximately where the door is. The door is blue.

If you remain locked out, you may call Public Safety at 802.443.5133. For an emergency, please use the number 802.443.5911. You might want to program these numbers into your cell phones.

College Equipment: Please keep in mind that we are lucky to be able to provide this program, which takes place in an exceptional facility. We need to be respectful of all spaces and all property, so that we can continue to use this space. All College equipment is off limits – do not touch, use, or play with College equipment.

Cell Phone Use: Please no picture taking in the dress room.

Snow Day Policy: When the local schools call a Snow Day or delayed opening, there will be no skating lessons.
