METRICS Cheat Sheet (Revisited)

Status should be based on “substantial” compliance with ACGME standards and not the higher quality deemed appropriate for military programs.

General- Areas rated “green” do not need a comment, but you may include one when you want to point out the shortfall between the ACGME standards and where you think the program should be. Any area rated “amber” or “red” is REQUIRED to have a comment. Foremost, there needs to be information on the shortfall, the impact, AND THE PLAN TO CORRECT, especially if institutional support is required. HARD DATA (numbers, ACGME requirements, correction timeline, etc) must be included. If the status changed from the previous year, list what caused the change. If the status is a carry over, list what actions have been tried.

Accred Status- Items that still have UNCORRECTED citations/concerns need to be addressed. A response to the RRC to clarify an issue(s) does not, in itself, lead to an “amber” or “red” rating. Concerns raised during Internal Reviews should be addressed in the appropriate section on “Current Status”.

Board Pass- If below 90%, then give raw numbers (failed vs passed/total) and results of any retests.

Fill Rate- Based on service needs (JSB), not total ACGME authorization. If you have unfilled slots, list whether program is below RRC standards to remain open.

Grad Rate- If below 90%, then provide raw numbers (grad vs delayed/total). Also list extenuating circumstances (medical) and expected grad date(s). Less than 61-day delay = on time grad (or 31 days for one-year programs).

PI/PS- Focus on resident-driven projects and their results

Resident Research- Either “green” or “red”. Only list historical data. No future promises.

MUT- Describe what makes you different from civilian programs and whether grads are deployment ready.

Faculty, Nursing, Tech/Admin - Should only be “red” if it fails a SPECIFIC requirement or threatens the loss of the entire program. “Amber” is used to show gaps.

Case Loads- Be able to define “adequate” based on previous visits, national board recommendations, etc. Especially comment on need to access pediatric and Over-65 patients.

Equipment- If shortfalls, list item(s) and costs. Space issues should only result from new RRC requirements. Break out temporary issues resulting from BRAC moves during construction.

Budget- Should not be an issue unless there was a citation or new RRC requirement which was unfunded. Talk to Associate Deans for plus-up.

Admin- Please see me if you have any issues.
