The Company

SeaLink is dedicated to the operation of a top-quality service through our fleet of vessels on the Hauraki Gulf, transporting passengers, cars and freight to Waiheke, Pine HarbourandGreat Barrier Islands.

We are seeking ahighly motivated, efficient and qualified Engineer/Technician to join our skilled team of Shore Based Marine Engineers who operate across all our Aucklandterminals but are based primarily at Half Moon Bay.

The Role

Reporting to the Group Engineering Manager, you will join the proficient Engineering team and be responsible for the maintenance, repair and servicing of all SeaLink vessels and assets, whilst meeting the deadlines for all sailing schedules. A challenging hands on role in all facets of marine engineering tasks can include, but are not limited to: engine/transmission rebuilds, pump rebuilds, coolers, servicing, fabrication, hydraulics, winches, valves, pipework, diagnosis, or simply painting and cleaning.

Our ideal person will need to have the following qualifications andexperience:

  • Trade Certificate in Diesel Mechanic, Fitter/Turner or Marine Tech.
  • Proven engineering experience on medium and high speed diesel engines
  • Confident in all aspects of vessel systems, with regards to diagnosis and repair
  • Confidence in engine (and associated components) rebuilding
  • C-series Caterpillar, Detroit and MTU experience is advantageous
  • Hydraulic systems experience is advantageous
  • Refrigeration systems experience also advantageous
  • Welding and fabrication experience
  • Clean full driver's license
  • Forklift licence
  • Lifting and rigging experience

To be successful in the role you willhave the following skills and abilities:

  • Understand and adhere to Health and Safety processes and practices including working from heights, hotworks, confined spaces and electrical work
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure to achieve timely and quality repairs
  • Integrity in working habits and a positive approach
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Maintain professional relationships both internally and external
  • Able to work independently and unsupervised at times
  • Methodical work practices
  • Be resourceful in procurement and information
  • Understand the importance of Preventative Maintenance
  • Team player and a good sense of humour
  • Note: Marine Experience not necessarily required. You may be a Diesel Mechanicconversant with rebuilding of heavy equipment and associated components looking for a change of industry.
