My name is Maribel Mejia. I am 18 years old. I live in Manhattan, NY. I was born in what is considered “El Barrio” in Manhattan. Later when I was 10 I moved to “Yorkville” which is on the east side of Manhattan. I have three older brothers, and two older sisters. I live with my mother and brother in a small 2 bedroom apartment. I enjoy singing, dancing, acting, writing poetry, writing music, and listening to music. I also enjoy performing and learning new things because it helps me to perfect my musical abilities.

Throughout my entire life I’ve always strived for things I’ve desired. I inherited striving from my mother. Half of my whole life I’ve watched her strive to keep her job as a housekeeper and provide my brother and me with a roof over our heads. Although she has had many other problems to face she continues to provide us with meals, attention, patience, love, care, and happiness. I know that she has done all she can to make sure we are happy. Sometime I wish we could make her as happy as she makes us by not arguing over small issue so much. However it has become a part of our everyday routine.

I am very easy going and do not like to hold grudges. I am someone who loves every moment of life and always tries to enjoy it to my best advantage. I believe in forgiving because without forgiving you are not able to move on in life. As bad as it may hurt to forgive, true forgiveness does change your life. I love my friends and family dearly. I enjoy traveling. I love experimenting with new things and believe in taking chances because life is too short to not take chances. I don’t letpeople hold me back from pursuing my dreams. I know exactly where I want to go in life and I know exactly how to get there. I may change my mind but right now I have my mind set on the thing Iwant topursue in life and how I’m goingto pursue them. At this moment I feel that no one or nothing can hold me back except god himself.

My main goal for right now is to continue going to college and get a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. While I do that I also want to continue performing and writing music. I also love my job which is working with teens at the BeaconCenter in the east side of Manhattan. I plan to try to get a placement within the same company once I get my degree. I have no regret on what I am doing because if I don’t pursue my musical career I believe I can always fall back on my studies. I am not willing to let anyone hold me back because I am determined. When you are someone who is determined you know exactly where you’re heading and how you’re planning on getting there. That’s me, determined!
