SINGER GUIDELINES

Rehearsals – Mondays, 7:00 – 9:00 PM

Melvin K. West Fine Arts Center at Walla Walla University, College Avenue and 4th Street, College Place, WA

Please plan to arrive no later than 6:30 pm on the first rehearsal night for each concert to register and receive music prior to 7:00 pm. For all other rehearsals, plan to arrive by 6:50 pm. Be sure to sign in on the attendance sheet.

Rehearsal Etiquette

Please don’t wear any colognes, lotions, scented hairspray, etc., as several singers have severe allergies to scents.

Turn all electronic devices OFF or to vibrate. NO TEXTING DURING REHESARSAL!

“Think” your part rather than humming or singing when another section is being rehearsed.

Please avoid talking or visiting during rehearsal time and especially while a part other than yours is being rehearsed. Save it for break time.

Attendance Policy

Please sign in on the attendance sheet at every rehearsal.

Only two absences per concert period are permitted. If you must be absent for more than two, you will need to discuss this with the Artistic Director.

Attendance at all dress rehearsals is mandatory. Concert dress is NOT required at this rehearsal.

Dues

Dues are $35 per concert ($25 for students), payable at the first rehearsal. Music will be issued once dues are paid. Your dues help cover our operating expenses such as salaries for the AD, accompanist and librarian, office rental, venue rental, phone, music purchases, advertising, etc.

No member will be barred from participating due to financial hardship. Payment plans, reduced fees and scholarships are available. A scholarship request form is available on our website and should be given to the Treasurer prior to the second rehearsal.

Concert Attire

We traditionally perform in “concert black.” Occasionally a concert warrants light costuming instead of the traditional concert black. You will be given ample time to prepare.

Your music needs to be in a black binder or folder for performances.

MEN’S ATTIRE: Black dinner-jacket tuxedos, or black suits, with white pleat-front tuxedo shirts, black bow ties, black cummerbunds, black trouser socks and closed-toe black shoes are required.

WOMEN’S ATTIRE: Complete black outfit; mid-calf or longer black dress with elbow-length sleeves or longer. Black dress slacks or palazzo pants and black blouse or top with elbow-length sleeves or longer are also acceptable. NO leggings, skinny jeans, knee-length skirts, sleeveless or short-sleeved tops or dresses are acceptable. Black opaque hose/ knee-highs or tights and black shoes are required.

Members purchase their own concert attire. Some thrifty resources include: 1) Tabitha’s Closet at Christ Lutheran Church, 1420 S. 2nd, WW, 525-2243, 2) Hidden Treasures, 104 E. Main St., WW, 527-8990, 3) Goodwill Industries, 217 E. Alder St., WW, 525-5992. PLAN AHEAD!

Keep jewelry and other accessories minimal and unobtrusive.

Music

Much of our music is rented or borrowed, so USE ONLY PENCIL OR ERASABLE HIGHLIGHTER TO MARK YOUR SCORE. NEVER USE INK!!

To assist the librarian, please do the following before returning your music:

  1. Remove all highlighter tape or markings.
  2. Unfold all bent corners.
  3. Remove all paperclips, tabs or post-its.
  4. Erase all pencil markings.

Keep scratch paper in your folder so you do not write rehearsal notes on your music.

Return your music at the conclusion of the concert to the boxes provided. If you need to drop out of the concert before the performance, make arrangements to return the music quickly.

We reuse the manila envelopes issued with your music. Please return them.
