Lockerbie Curling Development Officer

The Curling Development Officer will provide a critical role in the planning, organising and delivery of a range of curling programmes in Lockerbie ensuring that all members of the community have the opportunity to participate and progress in curling.

Employment Status: / Part time – 22 hours per week, 30 weeks per year (September – April)
Salary: / £6,500
PURPOSE/RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST
Overall Purpose:-
·  To manage curling programmes locally, with support from key partners, to provide curlers of all ages and abilities the opportunities to participate and develop whilst contributing to the growing of the game nationally.
Responsibilities:-
·  Provide input to the annual Lockerbie Curling Development Plan focussing on the key objectives of the funding partners
·  To deliver relevant parts of the Lockerbie Curling Development Plan, supported by key funding partners:-
o  Establish pathways into and through curling to support lifelong participation
o  Through the Active Schools and Community Sport Team create and promote opportunities to participate in curling and develop pathways from school to club sport including the Curling’s Cool Programme and Festivals
o  Work together with Junior Club(s) to recruit new members, deliver RCCC Skill Awards, encourage participation into competitions and identify talent
o  Co-ordinate Try Curling, Beginner Class and Virtual Club session dates in line with RCCC guidance, and promote through local channels
o  Provide specific disability curling opportunities, with the support of RCCC and the local Scottish Disability Sport (SDS)
o  Establish a supportive culture for individuals through effective club structures and development pathways
o  Engage with clubs and arrange coaching & seminars, supported by RCCC, in line with demand
o  Establish and maintain a core of qualified coaches and volunteers to deliver sessions
o  Ensure all sessions are structured with follow-up opportunities
o  Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety regulations and legislation relating to working with children and protected groups
o  Investigate demand for volunteer training and work closely with RCCC staff and key partners to provide and promote appropriate training opportunities including coaching courses, child protection training, specific curling training (statistics and time clock operating), umpire training and committee member training
o  Promote RCCC membership benefits and work to increase membership in line with RCCC’s Strategic Plan
o  Take on the role & duties of Ice Rink ‘Protection Officer’
o  Inspire & organise volunteer coaches and helpers
o  Lead the organisation of Asham sponsored junior competitions
·  Support Lockerbie and local clubs to complete suitable grant applications that will contribute to the development of the game
·  Work with partners to identify suitable competitions to host, and provide input to Competition Bidding Applications
·  Build and maintain effective relationships with Schools, Active Schools and Community Sports Team and relevant external groups
·  Work with funding partners to explore new opportunities to increase ice usage at Lockerbie Ice Rink
·  Help to generate additional income revenue for Lockerbie Ice Rink revenue through the organisation of corporate curling events and business challenges
·  Maintain solid planning and budgetary systems and control to ensure programmes are delivered within allocated budgets.
·  Monitor and review the Lockerbie Curling Development Plan, communicating regularly with key partners
·  Prepare regular reports for the RCCC Development Manager and other key partners against the Lockerbie Curling Development Plan as required.
·  The Curling Development Officer will be expected to attend all RCCC Development Officer meetings, and to work towards an Agreed Action Plan
·  Involvement at RCCC activities (approx.5 days / year) such as development seminars, camps, volunteer training, meetings, competitions and events
·  Other duties as may reasonably be required by the RCCC Development Manager
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Factor / Essential / Desirable
Qualifications and Attainments / ·  Educated to degree level or a professional qualification in sports related subject or relevant experience
·  Driving Licence and access to a vehicle / ·  Hold Safeguarding & Protecting Children & Protected Adults certificate
