COLDSIDE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PLAN 2012-2017

INTRODUCTION

Each multi-member ward in Dundee has a community engagement strategy that operates in parallel with the Local Community Planning (LCP) process. The strategy reflects the principles of the National Standards for Community Engagement which were set as a benchmark for national good practice by the Scottish Government in 2007. It also defines key themes of engagement practice that seek to ensure that residents of communities in Dundee have the opportunity to play as much a role, as they deem appropriate, in "the workings" of their own community.

The Community Engagement Plan is underpinned by four engagement themes that set out to inform, improve understanding, develop constructive dialogue and raise the levels and quality of participation to the LCP/Single Outcome Agreement (SOA).

This Ward based Plan which covers the communities of Coldside, Dudhope, Fairmuir, The Glen, Hilltown, Law to identify all planned community engagement activity. This is broken down into an audit of what agencies or practitioners do or propose to do as part of their work and a plan of what activity agencies or practitioners will do in order to meet the requirements set out in the Local Community Plan outcomes. The audit is presented as a list of activities with a defining engagement theme and the community engagement plan is framed in a pro-forma that reflects the Local Community Plan.

The Plan will be reviewed regularly throughout the lifespan of the Local Community Plan. The intention is that the Community Planning Partnership will involve community engagement practitioners and residents in the review of the strategies impact and plan new activities on an annual basis. If you wish to be involved in the review or planning phases you should contact Elaine Pratt, Communities Officer on 433444 or at to Coldside Regeneration Team,Coldside Community Office, 201-203 Hilltown, Dundee DD3 7AF.

STRATEGY AREAS

Information: The provision and exchange of information is a two way process. While we will disseminate and encourage the circulation of information about Council services we will also gather and re-present intelligence about communities to better inform people about Dundee City Council and partner services in their area.

Understanding: The City Council and its partners will support and provide appropriate opportunities for residents to examine local issues and to clarify how desirable solutions can be achieved. We will encourage stakeholders to share their plans and raise the general level of public awareness about Dundee City Council and its services, the services of our Community Planning partners and the issues that effect the development and delivery of these services.

Dialogue: We will ensure that all stakeholders in the community have the opportunity to contribute to setting local priorities for action and to ensure that their views will be taken into account when making decisions about the development of services or projects affecting their community. We will listen to the views of local representatives and other stakeholders before initiating actions and will welcome critical comment on proposals for action.

Participation: Our aim is to persuade more people to take part in the organised life of their community. We also view individual participation as a fundamental step towards the development of community networks. Without participation there is no engagement, with no engagement there is no dialogue, with no dialogue there is no exchange of information and no learning.
