The Matilda Joslyn Gage Center

The Matilda Joslyn Gage Home is a unique place where we share Gage’s legacy of social justice. While many historic homes have one story to tell, the Gage Home interprets five important segments of United States History: women’s rights, abolition, the Haudenosaunee influence on democracy, separation of church and state, and the vision of peace and social justice contained in the feminist utopia Oz books written by Gage’s son-in-law L. Frank Baum. It is not just one more dusty museum where you see how an important person lived. It is an interactive and dynamic place, where people come together to dialogue about important contemporary social issues.

The ongoing work at the Gage Center is receiving national and even international recognition and acclaim. The house is open by appointment and the constant flow of tourists from around the country is bringing business to our community.

Our next event will be an evening of fine dining, and a silent and live auction at the Wellington House on November 7, 2012. Sponsored by Wellington House owner Tom Thomas, and Hancock Estabrook, LLP, the event will feature Syracuse Post Standard columnist Sean Kirst as a guest speaker. Auction items include Gloria Steinem’s voice on your answering machine and a Hollywood basket from Mimi Kennedy of memorabilia from her roles in “Midnight in Paris” and “In the Loop”.

We invite you to participate bydonating an item or service for our silent auction, purchasing an advertisement in the event program, or displaying a poster detailing your businesses services. The ad prices are $35 for a business card size ad, $50 for a half page ad, and $100 for a full page ad.
