Leesville Middle School Code of Athletic Conduct

Leesville Middle School Code of Athletic Conduct

Mission Statement: It is the purpose of athletics to provide students with an opportunity to excel both in the classroom and on the court or field while participating in an extracurricular sport or activity. Students who try out for an athletic team at Leesville Middle School are among the privileged few as are those who make the athletic team. Student athletes are held at a higher standard than other students at Leesville Middle School since they represent themselves, their team, their coaches, their parents, and their school. Student athletes should have pride in themselves and their team to act in a manner above and beyond all other students demonstrating good character with respect for all faculty, staff and classmates; responsibility to complete all class requirements on time; self-discipline to behave in a manner representative of their status as an athlete; have the integrity to be always honest and truthful; and to demonstrate good judgment involving every course of action in school, at home, or in the community.

Expectations: Every student athlete will follow Wake County and Leesville Middle School rules and regulations as outlined in the student handbook. It is also expected that every student athlete complies with their classroom teacher and coach’s rules of conduct as outlined by their respective teacher and coach. Student athletes are expected to have their best manners in the classroom and hallway at all times. Athletes are expected to comply with all rules and this code of conduct that includes proper behavior when using technology both at home and in school.

Consequences: Violations of rules will result in such consequences as follows:

Any student suspended from school is also suspended from the team for the remainder of the season;

Any student placed on in-school suspension is ineligible for practices and a game for that day until their in-school suspension expires beginning the next day at school;

Any second ISS during the same season could result in removal from the team;

Any student athlete who refuses to comply with academic expectations and requirements for all of their classes or demonstrate positive behavior at school at all times with their conduct as described in this code of conduct will be either placed on probation, suspended from their team until they complete their academic requirements, or removed from the team completely;

Any student who does not comply with Healthful Living requirements (which includes changing for PE class and acting as leaders in their class demonstrating respect for their coaches the same as they would for their team coach) will be subject to disciplinary actions and placed on probation or suspension until they comply;

Any student suspended or placed on probation will forfeit any awards they may have received for that season. (Awards are described as any trophies, plaques, or medals not including certificates.)

Choice: If any student athlete finds that these expectations and consequences are too difficult to follow, then everyone has a choice to make whether to try-out for and be a member of the team or to just not try-out or be a member of our Leesville Middle School athletic team.

Probation and suspensionswill be decided on a case by case scenario and will be applied towards violations of this standard code of conduct. Since there are so many variations of violations and consequences, suspensions and probations will be decided by the Athletic Director who will consult with the Administrator involved and will inform the Coach and Student Athlete of the decision in a timely manner.
