2. What topics, if any, do you need more information or guidance on to confidently conduct training?

  • I will need general review of the manual to be proficient.
  • Program covered all my concerns for now.
  • Dispatcher/calltaker when dealing with incoming calls for service and dispatching the call
  • I will research and use the resources provided by this class to fully prepare myself prior to instructing
  • I will need to conduct more subject matter study to reach a level of competence to present adequately

3. What part of today’s training was most significant (or stood out) to you?

  • Learning disabilities
  • Sections on ID and TBI. They seem to be very prevalent in our community.
  • The entire program was effective and interesting. Videos are excellent. A lot of critical information. Instructor was energetic and passionate about the topic.
  • Tourette Syndrome, TBI
  • Situations at the end of the training sessions
  • Dementia
  • How many disabilities police may encounter and how to handle them. Being aware.
  • Several that are close to home
  • ALL is significant – but learning how the disabilities present themselves stood out
  • That disability awareness should be expanded in recruit/supervisory mandated curriculum
  • The videos

  • Officer engagements with disabled members of their communities

-Need further examination to determine which handouts would be helpful to a particular class

8. Would you recommend this training to others? Yes xv

9. When, and where, do you plan on conducting training?

  • Police – annual in-service
  • In-service – hopefully with assistance from our disabilities resource center
  • Jefferson County
  • SUNY Delhi – depending on college spring schedule and demands from area departments
  • In-service
  • Command security academy. Possible at Zone 5 in-service.
  • Yonkers Police in-service training
  • During in-service
  • JCSO – when? Like all law enforcement and correctional divisions have this training
  • In Orange County (or elsewhere if requested) in-service etc.
  • I plan on advocating to make this “mandated” training for recruit training – expand from 2 to 8 hours
  • Basic academy and in-service
  • In-service training and academy
  • In-service to my agency sometime in the next 3 months
