Course Selection

Grade 6

  • Required Courses: English/Language Arts (2 periods), Mathematics, Physical Education, Science, Social Studies
  • 1 Elective from: Beginning Art, Beginning Band, Beginning Choir, Beginning Orchestra, Orchestra, Math Improvement (requires approval)

Grade 7

  • Required Courses: English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies
  • 3 Electives from: Introductory Art, Intermediate Art, Band, Choir, Exploratory Language, French I (high school credit), Spanish I (high school credit), Skills for Adolescence (one semester), Skills for Living (one semester), Number Sense (one semester), Keyboarding (one semester, high school credit), Crafts (one semester), Orchestra, Physical Education, P. E. (Athletics), Reading (Adolescent Literature)
  • Note 1:Reading Improvement is a required course which must be taken by students who need additional reading instruction. Math Improvement is a required course which must be taken by students who need additional Math instruction. Placement will be based upon standardized test scores. Each of these courses will take the place of an elective.
  • Note 2: Students considering a foreign language as an elective, please see a counselor for prerequisites.
  • Note 3: Students must complete one year of Physical Education in either grade 7 or grade 8.

Grade 8

  • Required Courses: English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies
  • 3 Units of Electives from a combination of Group 1 and Group 2 Electives.
  • Group 1 (1 Unit each): Introductory Art, Intermediate Art, Advanced Art, Art I, Band, Choir, Desktop Publishing, Exploratory Language, French I, French II, Orchestra, Physical Education, P. E. (Athletics), Reading (Adolescent Lit.), Spanish I, Spanish II
  • Group 2 (1/2 Unit Each - choose 2 courses to equal 1 unit)
  • IntermediateSchool Courses: Crafts, Skills for Living, Skills for Adolescence, Number Sense
  • High School Courses: (taken at intermediate school; student receives high school credit if successful, no grade points awarded): Communication Applications, Keyboarding, Health
