The EU-funded private sector programme in Lebanon aims at increasing micro, small and medium enterprises competitiveness and participation in the economy by fostering their development and integration into value chains.

The specific objective of the programme aims at providing integrated non-financial and financial intermediation services to groups of Micro and SMEs in the agribusiness and wood processing sectors through establishment, management and operation of market-oriented value chains and clusters with special focus on enhancement of productivity and competitiveness. Value chains and clusters are considered as the most appropriate specific approach for achieving concrete results in terms of effective inter-business, inter-sectoral and private/public institutional linkages.

Overview of the Position

The Agri-business Expert will be responsible forthe design and the implementation of the Agribusiness value chain and clusterscomponentof this programme.He/She is expected to provide coaching, to supervise local actors in project execution and to deliver capacity building services in all the value chain of stone fruit.

The Agri-business expert will report directly to the Team Leader.

Key Responsibilities

-Responsible of the implementation of the component , which includes:

  • Transfer relevant know-how about agriculture upgrading based on the diagnostic approach ;
  • Provide needed coaching, training and team building activities for stonefruits producers, workers and stakeholders’ staff through the TAT and the recruitment of external training;
  • Prepare and or assist in drafting terms of references for recruiting short term consultants and concept note for conducting training events ;
  • Mobilize the resources of expertise required for short-term implementation activities ;
  • Assist in providing technical and logistical organization of these missions, monitor their progress and keep track of reports ;
  • Control and monitor reports of short-term expertise;

-During the inception phase, he will carry out diagnostic surveys, design the specifications of the Component 1 Agribusiness value chain and clusters, and perform an in-depth assessment of the available funding sources for targeted MSMEs.

-Assist the Project Steering Committee in the setting up of the project and provide needed institutional building support in this regard ;

Qualifications and skills

  • UniversityDegreepreferably at Masters level in agriculture, agronomy,agribusiness, internationaltrade in agriculture, agriculturaleconomics, or equivalent discipline.
  • Proven abilities in providing business development services to actors in a development context
  • Good knowledge ofagri-business, value and clusters chain issues.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken; French will be an advantage.

General professionalexperience

  • At least 15 years of experience in agribusiness advisory or executive positions.
  • Experience in the region will be highly valued.
  • Experience as a key expert of agribusiness related assistance projects would be considered as an advantage.
  • Knowledge of EU technical assistance project and processes.

Specificprofessionalexperience:

  • Minimum of 7 years of agricultural sector experience including value chain development; increasing productivity, exports, or quality of products; food safety; agricultural market development; and related services.
  • Experience in evaluation of SME development projects in the Agriculture Sector;
  • Proven track record in agro-processing and certification of agricultural produce;
  • Experience ingrant management
  • Experience in leveraging funding resources
  • Experience in training and coaching of teams.
