The majority of the rest of the meeting was spend discussing the suggestions made at the previous meeting by members of the Harlow Referees Club.

The membership voted to change the name of the society to the Cheshunt Referees Club.

A team was put together to work on some of the other suggestions to get them in place before the next meeting. David to put together a timetable of events to be followed in the close season. The main items are to set up a web site, put together a flyer to send to all local referees, get the name change out to the County for the handbook and arrange for a guest speaker at the first meeting. David and Mark to attend the first Harlow Referees Club meeting in August.

The final 10 minutes were spent talking football and some of the members discussed some recent match incidents. David congratulated those referees who had been appointed to cup finals and wished everybody a good summer.

David drew the raffle and closed the meeting at 10pm.

Next meeting is on 19 September 2011.

Training News

During the Summer, I have been kept extremely busy running 3 training courses for Herts FA.

The first one in June was held over 4 weeks, 2 nights a week, at the John Warner School & Sports Centre in Hoddesdon where all 20 candidates successfully passed the exam with an average mark overall of 79.6 – the highest marks of 89 being attained by Charlie Dickens & Harry Skinner.

It was at times a challenging course, but ultimately a worthwhile exercise and I am assured by Tara Haddock – the PE teacher who helped arrange the course - that the new Referees will be put to work on School games during the coming season.

The second Course was held at Braughing Community Centre having been requested by Hormead Hares FC, a Youth & Ladies Football Club who play in The Royston Crow Youth League, and 14 of the 25 Candidates were members of the Club.

So far 24 have taken and passed the exam and an average mark of 77.54 was achieved with 1 candidate yet to be examined. The highest mark of 90, was achieved by Ben Walker.

This was a very enjoyable and productive course and I would like to express my thanks to Eileen & Peter Worby of Hormead Hares FC for helping to get this course off the ground and organizing the venue. The new Referees from the Club will be mentored by the existing Referees already at the Club so the club should benefit from the large influx of new Referees.

The final Course was at Bishops Stortford Youth FC where, after a fashion, we had a total of 26 candidates on the course, 11 of whom were from the Club.

23 passed the exam with an average mark of 80.34 with Max Massey who made the trip all the way up from Enfield worthwhile by achieving the highest mark of 90.

Again, those that are members of BSYFC will be given games by the Club to get them started and will be mentored by existing Referees already at the Club in particular by Morgan LaForce, a Referee of many years experience who also manages a team at the Club.

All in all, it has been a highly productive Summer and I am sure that all members of The Cheshunt Referees Club will join me in wishing all the new Referees the very best of luck in their Refereeing career.

Len Wilcock.
