BackgroundThis Job Description is provided for guidance and should not be viewed as restrictive. Its purpose is to define the core responsibilities of the person undertaking this role, and those deputising in his/her absence. The duties and responsibilities of the post holder will develop and grow as a result of both internal and external factors.

This Job Description only covers the main areas and cannot be fully comprehensive and will be reviewed from time to time, normally as part of the annual Company appraisal process. .

Key Objectives

  • Operating the day to day driving of forklifts
  • Work with the Operations Team at Varfell to carry out tasks, as required.

Operational Tasks

  • Drive forklift truck
  • Daily checks of FLT’s
  • Keep LPG gas bottles serviced/filled as required
  • Put FLT and key in appropriate place at end of shift
  • Managing visiting vehicle drivers efficiently & safely - All drivers to be told to stay in their appointed place while waiting for their vehicle. Do not allow visiting drivers not to be a distraction to your job or risk to Health & Safety.
  • Make up orders ready for distribution
  • Ensure orders are correct product and count
  • Ensure each pallet is secure for transit and labelled correctly
  • Ensure all pallets , bins and trollies of product is correctly labelled
  • Ensure all drying walls are working correctly when you are using them
  • Load/Unload vehicles using the forklift
  • Loading/Unloading of Equipment
  • Move stock/goods using forklift
  • Complete delivery/goods in notes
  • Ensure stock rotation system/process followed
  • Keep areas clean & safe particularly the area at the front of the yard where lorries are loaded/unloaded and area leading up to offices, also supporting to empty waste bins and assist with management of recycling (only using machinery if authorised & trained to do so.
  • Ensure working to Health & Safety guidelines and standards
  • Ensure quality and careful and reliable handling of stock/goods
  • Cleaning of any storage units
  • Ensure that you report any faults, machinery/vehicle breakdowns or incidents or maintenance required to the relevant person
  • Assist with repairs and maintenance of machinery, as competent/trained
  • Willing to support other departments, and general farm duties as required
  • Assist all departments operationally if required to do so.
  • During quiet periods in the day you must liaise with other departments re assisting them.
  • During quiet times in-between seasons you must assist wherever required on the farm

General:

  • Support new team members to understand relevant procedures and standard operating procedures.
  • Promote and set a good example of work and team ethic.
  • Ensure personal compliance with company standards and procedures.
  • To ensure the highest quality standards are achieved at all times
  • To follow instructions given by Management.
  • Manage your hours worked to ensure legal parameters are not exceeded
  • To effectively communicate any problems or issues that have arisen during the day to day processes to the relevant person.
  • Undertake and utilise all appropriate training.
  • Ensure all materials are stored in appropriate conditions
  • Carry out any reasonable duties requested by your manager.
  • To promote and maintain a clean and tidy work environment, whilst following the company ‘’CLEAN AS YOU GO ‘’ policy at all times.
  • To be aware of your own responsibilities for Health and Safety and ensure you follow the company Health and Safety Policy at all times.
  • To report any faults found within the production and surrounding areas when they are identified.
  • To be aware of your responsibilities and to other employees by ensuring proper standards of employment are maintained, whilst highlighting any concerns regarding another employees conduct or wellbeing to their immediate Line Manager.
  • To play an active role in the development of your department and the Company by discussing any identified opportunities for improvement in full and assisting in their introduction

Capability LimitsIn specifying the responsibilities for this post, the Company accepts that from time to time difficulties will occur that may be outside the scope of the post holder’s competence. In such situations the post holder should refer the matter to his/her immediate Line Manager to seek assistance to help resolve the matter. In particularly difficult cases the manager may deal with the matter, but the post holder’s responsibility remains in place until the Line Manager has accepted responsibility.The Company works on the principle that silence signifies agreement. Therefore if the post holder has any comments or disagreement with anything related to work, he/she should voice their opinions as appropriate.

Mandatory competencies and criteria. The post holder must:

Forklift Licence

Self-motivated

Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team

Be able to demonstrate a proactive and flexible attitude to work adopting a “hands on” approach as and when appropriate for the Company’s dynamic environment.

Aptitude & ability to carry out general maintenance duties, as competent/ trained/required
