Position; Director of Finance and Accounting

Position Summary: Under the direction of the CFO, the Director of Finance and Accounting will be responsible for the daily oversight of the accounting, bookkeeping and controllership functions of Camillus House, a $22M not-for-profit organization. The Director of Finance and Accounting ensures that the organization’s accounting procedures conform to non-profit US-GAAP, is responsible for the production of periodic financial reports, keeps internal controls designed to mitigate risks, and manages the consolidations of financial information from several subsidiaries.

General purpose:Leads the organization’s accounting, bookkeeping and controllership functions, under the supervision of the CFO.

Role qualifications:

  • Commitment to the mission of Camillus House Inc. in both knowledge and practice.
  • Computer Literacy: Proficient in MS Word and MS Outlook; ability to enter information correctly into databases and spreadsheets. Very strong MS Excel skills. Must be comfortable manipulating vast amounts of data using Excel’s functionality and easily summarizing information into clean, intelligible reports.Comfortable with technology, experience with implementing accounting software packages and modules. Experience with enterprise-level accounting/ERP software (more advanced than QuickBooks) such as MS Great Plains, Oracle Financials, SAP, JD Edwards, etc.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Economics or related field.
  • Licensure: CPA designation (in any state) strongly preferred.
  • Experience:In lieu of CPA designation, minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible accounting experience.Previous supervisory experience required. Experience with allocation of expenses across multiple categories, for example: different legal entities, departments, product lines, divisions, programs, funding sources, etc. Must be comfortable with producing and analyzing P&Ls in matrix form, with rows containing the GL accounts, and columns containing various segments.
  • Language: Proficiency in oral and written English. Bilingual (English and Spanish) a plus.

Position responsibilities:

  • Maintains the accounting books of the organization and all of its affiliates.
  • Performs financial monitoring of grants, and interfaces with field managers in communicating actual results by program and grant. Coordinates required corrective actions as needed.
  • Develops budgets for new programs; provides ad-hoc financial analysis, as required.
  • Leads the monthly accounting close process, including consolidations and inter-company eliminations.
  • Maintains the Chart of Accounts and expands it in a rational and organized fashion, as the organization’s needs evolve.
  • Supervises grants’ invoicing, A/P and A/R functions.
  • Maintains open communication with HR and provides Payroll support, as needed.
  • Assists the CFO in formulating annual budgets, cash flow projections and other forecasts.
  • Leads the annual audit process and tax filings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Culturally sensitive to the social, psychological and healthcare needs of homeless persons and/or underserved populations.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills in order to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrates a high level of productivity while remaining calm and effective under pressure.
  • A self starter with demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as, with multidisciplinary teams and co-workers.
  • Extremely methodical, details-oriented and organized. This person must be able to keep a meticulously organized set of files (physical and electronic), supporting ledgers, and other documents.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of poise and professionalism in all circumstances.
  • Excellent written, oral, and listening skills.

Valued but not required skills and experience (exempt):

  • Bilingual preferred (i.e. Spanish), additional languages a plus (i.e. Creole).
  • A minimum of four (4) years of progressive development and/or grants experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with the homeless and/or minority and underserved populations preferred.
  • Valid FL driver’s license.

Reporting to this position: Grants Billing Coordinator.

Compensation:

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.Job offer is contingent on passing the following: Toxicology test, Level II background screening and language and reading assessment.

Work Schedule:

  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule (i.e. Evenings, weekends, holidays and on-call), as needed.
  • Full-time: Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
