Overall Purpose:

The postholder will provide day-to-day support for the operation of quality assurance and enhancement activity with one or more of the MU academic schools/faculty, and for University-wide initiatives.

Principal Duties:

  • Work closely with one or more Middlesex University Schools/Faculties, under the guidance of a Quality Enhancement Manager, to help support and implement quality procedures at school level.
  • Act as a point of contact for the School/Faculty(s)academic staff in relation to quality assurance and enhancement.
  • Provide support, advice, information and guidance to University School/Faculty/s and Services as required, particularly in relation to:
    -In-house and collaborative programme validation and review processes;
    -Supporting collaborative partners in meeting the expectations of MU quality systems.
  • Manage and Officer a number of in-house and/or collaborative validation and review events, from initial planning through to completion of process.
  • Service one or more School/Faculty committee(s) whose main work concerns quality assurance and enhancement, as required.
  • Support the process for any themed audits of institutional practice in any of the University’s quality systems.
  • Provide support for the University or its collaborative partners in its preparations for any external audits as required.
  • The postholder will be expected to be flexible in their approach to work in order to fully contribute to the team and to provide assistance to other members of the team at peak workload times and ensure cover during the absence of team members.

Education / Qualifications

Desirable:Educated to degree level or equivalent work experience

Experience:

Essential:Experience of quality systems in Higher Education or similar
Experience oforganizing and prioritising work demands to meet deadlines with a minimum of supervision
Experience of taking independent action and decisions

Proven ability to take delegated tasks through to completion

Experience of working flexibly as part of a team

Skills

Essential:Excellent minute taking and report writing skills

Ability to communicate and network expertlyat all levels, both orally and in writing

Ability to understand, interpret and implement complex policies and procedures and to monitor and propose improvements

Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite

Ability to work proficiently and effectively as a Business Partner across a variety of University Schools/Faculties and Services

Proven ability to work accurately, precisely and with a great attention to detail

Hours:35.5 hours per week, actual daily hours by arrangement

Fixed Term Contract

This temporary appointment is for the following allowable reason:

  • To provide cover for the Quality Enhancement Officerwho is on secondment.The exact date of termination of this contract will depend on the date of the substantive postholder’s return to work.

Therefore, this appointment has a defined end date of 31Dec18 or when the substantive job-holder returns to the job, whichever is soonest.

Annual Leave: 30 days per annum plus eight Bank Holidays and seven University days taken at Christmas (pro rata for part-time staff) which may need to be taken as time off in lieu.

Flexibility: Please note that given the need for flexibility in order to meet the changing requirements of the University, the duties and location of this post and the role of the post-holder may be changed after consultation. The balance of duties may vary over time and will be reviewed as part of the appraisal process.
