Contract Status: This post is available from the beginning of March 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter and will initially be offered on a fixed-term contract with the University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China for a period of up to five years. This contract may be extended on an indefinite basis by mutual agreement.

Job Family & Level: Research and Teaching Level 7

Salary: Salary is negotiable depending on skills and experience.In addition, an attractive package including accommodation allowance, travel allowance and insurance will be provided for international appointments.

Job Outline:

Li Dak Sum Chair Professor in Liberal Arts Education will be a distinguished academic and active leader with strong international track record of pursuing research beyond others at the Professor rank as evidenced by publications, grants, awards, citations, national and international presentations and invitations, including media, teaching awards and professional publications, standing in professional associations, records of innovation and other such indicators of excellence and eminence including peer evaluations.A sustained record of excellence in teaching and supervision of students at various levels as documented by student evaluations, career destinations and achievements of students supervised, joint publications. A record of leadership of Faculties, Schools or departments, research groups including active and successful mentoring of earlier career and junior faculty is preferable. S/He is major roles in key university committees or similar.

The appointed candidate will be an eminent international leader in teaching and research with a specialism in any area of liberal arts broadly understood but also, by definition, highly committed to interdisciplinary research and teaching at the frontiers of contemporary endeavour. Evidence of creativity and innovation, including activities or interests in the creative industries and perhaps also performing arts will be looked for. Further team appointments may also be possible, such as post docs, research assistants, full or part time academic appointments etc.

Main duties and Responsibilities:

  • To bring leadership and direction to FHSS research activities and teams through the Yang Fujia Liberal Arts Research Centre at UNNC, and international presence and visibility to FHSS research both within the University and more widely, in professional and community outreach contexts;
  • To design and introduce in consultation with colleagues and other Nottingham campuses a Liberal Arts Programme to run from 2018 (probably) as a leading instance for the region;
  • To develop models and principles for Liberal Arts education specifically in China and the region with a distinct identity which can inspire and support others;
  • To promote and support development of relevant ICT pedagogy and materials;
  • To teach in FHSS programmes as appropriate and agreed and to lead and to teach on Liberal Arts programmes as they are developed.
