A RESOLUTION Honoring the Scott County High School Football Team Upon Winning the Kentucky

A RESOLUTION honoring the Scott County High School football team upon winning the Kentucky State 6A Championship.

WHEREAS, this honorable body commends rare athletic achievement, and gives special honor and commendation to those athletic teams who pursue such excellence that they become examples for the youth of this Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, the Scott County Cardinals achieved such excellence on December 7, 2013, when they defeated Meade County High School in front of 4,716 people to win the State 6A championship at Houchens Industries/L.T. Smith Stadium in Bowling Green, Kentucky; and

WHEREAS, Scott County scored on a 6-yard touchdown pass from Clay McKee to Scott Daniel with 40 seconds left to secure a 21-14 victory, the first state football title for the school since 1975; and

WHEREAS, the state championship ended an incredible season for Scott County, who improved to 15-0 and capped a perfect season that will secure their place in the annals of Kentucky high school football forever. The team scored 778 points on the season, which is the third most in Kentucky high school football history. The team had three players who were named by the Associated Press first-team all-state: offensive lineman Travis Wright, wide receiver Scott Daniel, and kicker Palmer Ward. Palmer Ward, Scott Daniel, and offensive lineman Daniel Berry were also named by the Courier-Journal first-team all-state, and defensive lineman Jacob Van Meter was named third-team. Travis Wright, Scott Daniel, and Palmer Ward were named to the esteemed Border Bowl game, which pits the best seniors from Kentucky against the best seniors from Tennessee; Scott Daniel was named MVP of that game, and Travis Wright was named Outstanding Lineman. Scott County's senior class won an impressive 51 games in four years, including a state championship, a state runner-up, and two state semifinal appearances; and

WHEREAS, the achievements of the Scott County Cardinals and their coach, Jim McKee, deserve recognition and have earned a rightful place at the top of their sport. For their impressive 2013 season and for the example that they have set for future generations of young athletes in this Commonwealth, this body honors them and wishes them the best of luck in all their future endeavors;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The members of the House of Representatives, both individually and collectively, hereby commend the Scott County High School football team upon its state championship and congratulate each member of the team, Head Coach Jim McKee and his staff, Principal Frank Howatt, and the entire Scott County High School community.

Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in honor of the Scott County High School football team.

Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mr. Frank Howatt, Scott County High School, 1080 Cardinal Drive, Georgetown, Kentucky 40324.
