Purpose of the New Role: Postdoctoral Research on a 3yearproject funded by Innovate-UK/BBRO as part of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership award. The aim is to develop BBRO's expertise in the application and digital delivery of crop and agricultural systems modelling and to apply this expertise to create a farm level yield improvement tool to support measureable improvement by innovation and knowledge transfer in the UK sugar beet industry.
Main Responsibilities / % time per year1. / To initiate, innovate and undertake research on the specific project. To develop new solutions to related problems, in order to further knowledge in the area of research. / 60%
2. / Grower Engagement. Engage sugar beet growers and other relevant industry stakeholders in the projectin order to ensure relevance of outputs, access to farm level data, and maximise ultimate uptake of the project outputs. / 20%
3. / Industrial Training. Undertake relevant KTP training programmes. / 10%
4. / Writing of research reports and papers in order to disseminate research results and develop a track record of published research findings in internationally respected peer-reviewed journals. Further dissemination of results through invited oral and poster presentation at an international meeting, UK conference and seminars. / 5%
6. / Attend regular meeting with project supervisors to discuss results and for forward planning / 5%
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Essential / DesirableQualifications/ Education / First degree in a relevant scientific or agricultural discipline / PhD/MSc degree in a relevant scientific or agricultural discipline
Skills/Training / Analytical and problem solving skills
Interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to deal with a variety of people at different levels.
Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks and work to tight deadlines. / Knowledge of statistics and some basic bioinformatics skills
Good project management skills.
Experience / Relevant and applied practical experience in statistical and computational modelling techniques (e.g. simulation models, regression and data visualisation)
Experience of working as an innovative researcher.
Experience of working as part of a team and on own initiative. / Background or experience knowledge of the agriculture industry.
Experience of writing publications and written reports.
Statutory/Legal / Knowledge of Health and Safety and relevant regulations. / Familiarity with data protection requirements and best practice.
