General Statement of Responsibilities: Under the direct supervision of the Assisted Living Administrator, performs management and clinical duties related to resident care and services. Assumes 24 hour responsibility for administration and coordination of resident care and other services in assisted living; provides direct supervision to nursing staff; demonstrates leadership skills, effective communication and strong interpersonal relationship skills; implements policies using sound managerial and clinical judgment; acts as a conduit within the organization and community; supports the Corporate Compliance Program and code of ethical conduct of Lucy Corr; promotes the mission and values of Lucy Corr both internally and within the community; and performs other work as required.

Specific Statement of Responsibilities (not all inclusive):

  • Acts as a resident advocate, promoting the welfare and dignity of all residents.
  • Ensures that documentation supporting resident care is maintained and updated as required.
  • Facilitates the care planning process for residents within the guidelines of state regulations.
  • Recognizes that families are an important support for resident care and involves them in the overall plan of care.
  • Communicates effectively with family members regarding resident's condition, preferences and needs and addresses concerns in a respectful manner.
  • Monitors resident's condition, appropriately responds to changes in condition; participates in the delivery of quality care and services
  • Coordinates resident care and services using sound managerial and clinical judgment, appropriate objectives and high standards of care and customer service.
  • Maintains effective communication with staff, peers and administrative personnel and with particular attention focused on neighborhood teams;
  • Addresses staff questions and concerns in a manner consistent with organizational values and administrative decisions.
  • Provides administrative and clinical tools and resources to support neighborhood operations and personnel as needed.
  • Effectively evaluates program and staffing needs and makes necessary adjustments.
  • Participates in scheduling staff, accepts calls from staff due to illness or tardiness, and replaces staff as needed.
  • Assures staff is properly oriented to the department, and to facility policies and procedures.
  • Assesses needs and implements staff development strategies.
  • Participates in monitoring attendance by staff at in-service training.
  • Participates in staff recruitment and retention activities.
  • Administers annual performance evaluations for station nursing staff.
  • Monitors 24-hour operation of department.
  • Monitors employee work performance, coordinates and provides feedback through counseling, discipline and recognition ensuring appropriate actions and referrals are made.
  • Identifies areas for targeted improvement; participates in the continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Recognizes staff for successful performance outcomes.
  • Ensures that a multi-disciplinary approach to care is achieved.
  • Initiates, implements and interprets policy and procedures.
  • Promotes a safe and positive environment for residents, staff and visitors.
  • Participates in clinical meetings, as needed or requested by supervisor.
  • Follows all safety protocols.
  • Ensures equipment is functional and used within manufacturer guidelines.
  • Completes physician rounds as needed
  • Completes physician reconciliation monthly
  • Track incidents/accidents and infections for residents
  • Completes weekly clinical assessments for residents
  • Participates in monthly weight and vital signs reviews
  • Performs other work as required.

Physical Requirements: The ability to: speak, read and write in the English language; communicate effectively; use dexterity of fingers; perform gross grasp, fine manipulation, push and pull with both the right and left hands and arms; lift 0-20 pounds frequently, over 20pounds occasionally; bend, stoop, use repetitive arm motions and reach above shoulders frequently; squat, kneel, climb/balance occasionally; sit, stand and walk with rest.

Required Knowledge, Skill and Abilities: Considerable knowledge of nursing principles and practices, medical terminology and aging. Excellent working knowledge of State and Federal Regulations pertaining to assisted living facilities. Good knowledge of the principles of teaching practices. Highly skilled in assessing residents and rendering nursing care. Considerable skill in leading a cooperative team and applying nursing principles and practices. Considerable ability to supervise and manage effectively. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Basic computer knowledge and skills.

Minimum Education and Experience: Core curriculum for a bachelor’s degree, an associates degree or a diploma in nursing from an accredited nursing school; current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license or Licensed Practical Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia; a minimum of 3 to 5 years progressive supervisory/managerial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience, 2 to 4 years of long-term care experience preferred.
