Dementia UK provides specialist dementia support for families through our Admiral Nurse service. When things get challenging or difficult for people with dementia and their families, Admiral Nurses work alongside them, giving the one-to-one support, expert guidance and practical solutions people need. The unique dementia expertise and experience an Admiral Nurse brings is a lifeline - it helps everyone in the family to live more positively with dementia in the present, and to face the challenges of tomorrow with more confidence and less fear.

Responsible for a significant amount of the overall charity income, the Community and Events Team at Dementia UK is a dynamic and enthusiastic team which is currently experiencing a period of investment and growth.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage specific running and challenge events in our events portfolio, including Brighton Marathon, Great North Run, and Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon. Plan and deliver marketing, recruitment, stewardship, on the day logistics and evaluations.
  • Manage specific budgets and support the Community and Events Manager in the setting of the team budget.
  • Develop supporter journeys and build long term relationships with supporters and increasing retention rates of event supporters through exceptional donor care.
  • Review running and challenge event portfolio and identify any future opportunities for the charity, including growing team sizes of charity place and own place participants in events.
  • Work with external event providers and suppliers.
  • Respond to Events Fundraising enquiries on the phone or by email.
  • Motivate, recognise, and reward supporters to encourage their long term support.
  • Attend events on behalf of the charity, receiving donations and delivering presentations on the charity’s work where appropriate.
  • Promote Community and Events opportunities using our website, social media and other formats as appropriate.
  • Work closely with the Community and Events Manager on the delivery of the Community and Events strategy and operational plan.
  • With the Community and Events Manager to be responsible for the delivery of the Community and Events fundraising budget and targets/KPIs.
  • Assist with the development of community and event fundraising materials.
  • Update and maintain all paper, financial and database records to agreed standards and timescales.
  • Play a full role as a member of the community and events team, and contribute to the development of the community and events fundraising strategy and operational plan.
  • Work in partnership with other areas of Fundraising & Communications to maximisethe total lifetime fundraising potential of supporters, and awareness opportunities, for Dementia UK.
  • Support and develop any interns or volunteers in line with Dementia UK policy and practice.
  • Have a strong working knowledge of Dementia UK’s vision, mission and impact.
  • Complete any other duties and responsibilities as requested, commensurate with this role, and to work at all times in compliance with the Instituteof Fundraising Code of Practice, Fundraising Regulator and Dementia UK policy.

  • Knowledge of community and events fundraising techniques

  • Ability to motivate and influence supporters to maximise their fundraising
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritise workload whilst maintaining attention to detail

Experience

  • Experience of working in community fundraising
  • Experience of providing outstanding customer or supporter care
  • Experience of working with volunteers
  • Planning and delivering projects on time and on budget
  • Experience and confidence in Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and ideally, Raisers Edge
  • Experience of delivering presentations
