JOB POSTING – POST-DOCTORAL FELLOW

Area of Research:

The Centre for Urban Health Solutions (founded in 1998 as the Centre for Research on Inner City Health), is an inter-disciplinary research centre within St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto. The Centre seeks to improve health in cities, especially for those experiencing marginalization, and to reduce barriers to accessing factors essential to health, such as appropriate health care and quality housing. The Centre is committed to developing and implementing concrete responses within health care and social service systems and at the level of public policy. We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow from any of a variety of disciplines--public health, economics, psychology, sociology, health services research--to be part of the Toronto team of the ‘At Home/Chez Soi’ study, a multi-site randomized control trial to evaluate the impact of providing housing and mental health services to individuals who have mental illness and are homeless. The successful candidate will work closely with the Co-Principal Investigators and other team members. We are coming to the end of our second phase of follow-up and are seeking a recent graduate to draft manuscripts for publication.

Description of qualifications and duties:

Qualifications:

  • Experience conducting quantitative data analysis
  • Experience in evaluation / health services research would be an asset
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks in a timely manner
  • Flexibility to adapt to a changing workload and work with Co-Principal Investigators
  • Experience with SPSS, SAS, STATA or other statistical software as well as referencing software such as Endnote or Reference Manager would be assets
  • Experience working with large administrative datasets an asset
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

In addition to conducting your own research you will be responsible for the following in terms of manuscript preparation and publication for the At Home/Chez Soi data:

  • Prepare research manuscripts in consultation with the study Co-Principal Investigators, team members and other study partners (may include service providers and people with lived experience of homelessness and mental illness)
  • Conduct quantitative data analysis, where appropriate, and coordinate analyses with data analyst at C-UHS and other external organizations
  • Coordinate dataset preparation, including data cleaning and derived variable calculations
  • Conduct literature reviews and other background research for publications
  • Write, prepare and format manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals in consultation with study investigators and other team members
  • Revise manuscript drafts in response to reviewer and editor comments
  • Review and correct article proofs

Salary:Annual taxable $60000 stipend as per St. Michael’s Hospital guidelines.
