General Description of post

Under the direction of theBusiness Manager, the post holder will be responsible for duties covering security, heating, lighting and the cleaning of premises, for porterage, repairs and maintenance, and general duties of this kind associated with the support of the premises. Working hours may be subject to variation and call-out at weekends and unsocial hours will be necessary from time to time.

Outline of Duties

  • To attend to the opening and closing of the premises at designated times and to be responsible for general security of the whole site at all times. In this connection, the Site Manager may be called out in unsocial hours or at weekends to deal with security problems.
  • To clean staff toilets, Headteacher’s office, main office, Deputy’s office, staffroom medical room and reception area.
  • To oversee, as instructed, the efficient working of heating and lighting, monitoring fuel consumption and re-order oil as and when necessary.
  • To read meters as necessary and maintain approved records including any concerns with energy conservation matters.
  • To undertake specified indoor cleaning duties, including the inside surfaces of windows up to 335cm from floor level.
  • To clean and be responsible for the safety and tidiness of paths, drives and other hard surfaces within the site grounds.
  • To note and report as necessary on matters affecting the health and safety of persons on the site.
  • To undertake repairs and maintenance of furnishing and buildings as agreed with the Headteacher/Business Manager.
  • To keep paths, access points and entrances free of snow and ice to ensure safe passage.
  • Periodically to clean lamp shades and light diffusers, taking account of instructions given on cleaning at height.
  • To report defects in buildings, furniture, fittings to theBusiness Manager.
  • To report any problems that cannot be dealt with by the Site Manager to the Business Manager in order that an appropriate contractor can be called. The Site Manager will then monitor the progress of the contractor in dealing with the repair.
  • The replenishing of soap, towels, toilet paper to all lavatories on the site as necessary.
  • To maintain adequate stock of caretaking and cleaning supplies and re-order from the approved supplier as necessary in accordance with school procedures.
  • To carry out any other duties as directed by the Business Manager.
  • To monitor the temperature of water in the school on a regular basis in line with Water Safe Management (Training will be given).
