JESUS AND THE BIBLE

MATT. 5:17-19

I. INT.

A. This morning I want to study with you the subject, “JESUS

AND THE BIBLE

B. NOTICE, JESUS SAID, “I came not to destroy the law”

1. That is to “destroy what it says or teaches”

2. Many are doing exactly that today-How?-Matt. 15:9;

Mk. 7:9

c. Catholicism and denominations are doing exactly that-

d. How? By teaching the doctrines and commandments of men

e. The Bible teaches-I Cor. 1:10; 4:6; 2 Tim. 3:16-17

C. AS WE LOOK AT JESUS AND THE BIBLE LET US

NOTICE

II. 1ST, LET US NOTICE JESUS ATTITUDE TOWARD THE

BIBLE

A. HE BELIEVED THE BIBLE TO BE THE WORD OF GOD

1. This is seen His answer to the Devil in Mt. 4:4 “It is written…

man shall live by EVERY WORD”

a. Jesus not only quoted from the Bible but also believed what it said

b. Their are those who can quote the Bible but DO NOT

REALLY BELIEVE WHAT IT SAYS-Matt. 15:2-6

c. Many of my brethern can quote Matt. 6:33 but how many

really BELIEVE IT

d. Many can quote Heb. 10:25 but how many really

BELIEVE IT

e. Many can quote I Cor. 16:2 but how many really

BELIEVE

f. JESUS NOT ONLY QUOTED SCRIPTURE BUT HE

ALSO BELIEVED WHAT IT SAID

2. In Jn. 5:39 He said

B. HE BELIEVED SO MUCH IN THE BIBLE THAT HE CAME

TO FULFILL WHAT IT TAUGHT-MATT. 5:17

C. HOW STRONG IS YOUR FAITH IN THE BIBLE?

5. David’s attitude-Psa. 119:105

6. Paul’s attitude-Rm. 1:16-17-History says he died for it

7. The early Christians-Acts 8:5

8. DO YOU BELIEVE WHAT IT SAYS?

9. THE BIBLE IS THE WORD OF GOD-DIETY-OUR

MAKER

III. 2ND, JESUS NOT ONLY BELIEVED THE BIBLE, HE TAUGHT

IT-LK. 4:16-22

A. HE WAS SO KNOWLEDGEABLE IN THE SCRIPTURE

THAT THE PEOPLE WERE AMAZED-Lk. 4:22; Matt. 7:28-

29

B. WHAT DID JESUS TEACH?

1. He taught the WORTH OF MAN-Jn. 3:16; HEB. 2:6-7;

Psa. 139:14; Gen. 1:26-27

1. He taught the VALUE OF THE SOUL-Matt. 16:26; 10:28

2. He taught the NEED OF KEEPING OUR HEARTS PURE-

Matt. 5:8

1. He taught THAT WE SHOULD LOVE GOD-Matt. 22:37-38

2. He taught THE NEED OF LOVING OUR FELLOWMAN-

MATT. 22:39-40

6. He taught the need of placing the SPIRITUAL ABOVE THE

TEMPORAL

a. “Man shall not live”-Matt. 4:4

b. “Hunger and thirst after righteousness”-Matt. 5:6

c. “Lay not up for yourselves”-Matt. 6:19-20

d. “Seek ye first”-Matt. 6:33

e. “Let him deny himself”-Matt. 16:26

7. He taught THAT ALL SHOULD:

a. Believe in Him-Jn. 8:24

b. Repent of sin-Lk. 13:3

c. Confess Him-Matt. 10:32-33

d. Baptized-Mk. 16:16

IV. LASTLY JESUS OBEYED THE BIBLE’S TEACHING-MATT.

5:17

A. DID JESUS BREAK ANY OF THE COMMANDMENTS OF

GOD? LET’S SEE-I PET. 2:22; HEB. 4:15; 5:8-9

B. AS FOLLOWERS OF CHRIST, ONE OF OUR GOALS

MUST BE TO OBEY THE BIBLE’S TEACHING-MATT. 7:

21; REV. 22:14

1. Good intentions are not good enough-Jas. 1:22

2. Obeying “Some” or “Most” of His commandments is Not

suffecient-Jesus said-Matt. 5:19; Lk. 6:46

V. CONCLUSION:

A. JESUS BELIEVED IN THE BIBLE-HE TAUGHT THE BIBLE AND HE OBEYED THE BIBLE

B. WHAT ABOUT YOU? ARE YOU OBEYING IT? IS THERE

SOMETHING THAT YOU NEED TO DO TO BE RIGHT

WITH THE LORD, THEN WHY NOT DO SO NOW AS WE

STAND AND SING
