Attendees: Bethany Kenneway, Jennifer Geoghegan, Marie Fiddler, Meredith Nelson, Jennifer Tolton, Jenna Hare, Jennifer Arnold, Richard Hebert, Garry Pelletier

The meeting was called to order at 3:30

The Council welcomed new Jenkins School Principal, Garry Pelletier

  1. ApproveJune & September Meeting Minutes
  • June and September Council minutes approved unanimously.
  1. SEF Grant Update
  • Review of accepted grant proposal for “Natural Play Scape for Divergent Thinkers” alternative playground.
  • Community donations have been secured from Tim Lopes for boulders for the 25x20 section of the lower field. Sections of tree stumps have also been donated saving $800 on the grant funding to be used towards shipping, installation and maintenance of area.
  • Items also included in upcoming purchase: 36”table, wooden drums, hanging xylophone, and story stones.
  • Jen Tolton to contact DPW, Bob Dillon (facilities maintenance for schools) and Paul Donlan for installation advice and approval.
  • Purchase order to be sent to Cindy Ciessau.
  1. School Improvement Plan Review and Draft
  • Plan is divided into sections; Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, Social Emotional and Wellness Goals
  • Wellness Goal is where School Council should focus.Carry over any goals not reached from last year’s plan. Add strategies to support District Wellness Goal. Jenkins to focus on PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) Garry Pelletier will work with Jen Arnold on PBIS strategies.
  • Strategies from previous goal that were accomplished: Door magnets, water fountain filters, Parent meeting regarding social emotional wellness and bullying at Jenkins.
  • Strategies to move forward to this year’s plan:
  • Playground equipment: Marie Fiddler will discuss with Amy MacDonald and refer back to Jenna Hare to coordinate needs for new equipment and a plan to improve grade level equipment system. Make a list of maintenance issues that still need to be addressed. Custodians to lock areas of building after hours to secure equipment.
  • Online resources added to drop down menu on Jenkins website-both Wellness corner and School Council information. Bethany Kenneway will follow up with Angela and Paulette Marino. Addition of CALM classroom to be included. Audio versions of websites and attachments should be considered.
  • School Safety goal: Neighborhood traffic safety and pedestrian walkway. Jen Geoghegan will continue to pursue these needs with the town, school committee and TRRC.
  • Jennifer Tolton will develop strategy for the addition of the natural playground.
