Fundraising:

It was discussed that we need to get started on Fundraising ASAP with our state hosting the National show at the State Fair we need to get adequate funding for awards, and other expenses as well as for our summer show and awards banquet. Dana brought up two options for fundraisers it was discussed by the juniors and the following were decided upon:

“Herd in a tank”

Junior members will contact breeders across the state of Iowa and nationwide for semen and embryo donations. Dana is also going to contact a breeders service to look into a tank donation.

Upon further discussion Megan Ahrendsen motioned to have ticket prices at $100 and Carter Batterson seconded. Motion carried. Kevin Talach Senior board member said he would speak with the Senior board about possibly donating the tank or at least a portion of the funds if one was not donated to us. Tickets will be on sale from the Iowa Beef Expo until the start of the Junior show at the Iowa State Fair. Tickets will be mailed out to all Juniors as well as tickets will be available for pickup at the Iowa Beef Expo. Mia Gibson motioned to do the Herd in a Tank as a fundraiser seconded by Tess Lillibridge. Motion carriedWinner will be drawn at the National Junior Red Angus show at the State Fair. Winner will need to be present at the Iowa State Fair drawing to win.

Juniors are asked to not make calls on their own until Dana creates a master list and designates who will call which breeder so we do not have multiple calls into each breeder and can maximize our earning potential. Juniors were asked to get suggestions for breeders to contact to Dana ASAP. Dana will be contacting the juniors with the Master List by February 1. Please get those names in to Dana.

“Nail Board”

Juniors will contact businesses, farms and companies for donations for any prizes. Nails will be nailed into a board and each have tags hanging from them. People will have the opportunity to pull a nail and win a prize. Discussion was made that having 4 sections of nails $25, $50, $75 & $100 depending on prizes brought in by juniors. Some nails will simply say “Thanks for your donation” others will include a prize. Nail pulling will occur at the State Fair

Details to come as to how many nails will be made available depending on the amount of donations and prizes we are able to secure. Megan Ahrendsen motioned that we do the nail board, with details to come later, as a fundraiser seconded by Camiel Blomme. Motion carried.

Juniors are asked to go ahead and start contacting people they feel would donate to this fundraiser.

Summer Show

It was discussed with the members and decided that they did want to have a summer show. It was decided they would like to do a joint show with another breed to help cut costs and have a bigger show. Show possibly to be held with the Simmentals, June 3&4, or Shorthorns date unknown. Chase Plaudsen has a contact and will be getting that information to Dana so she can make calls.
