6. Brief Review of Intended work:

6.1) Need for study:

Jwara known as the Lord of Diseases is said to be the most painful of all diseases. Its heat destroys the Ojus and afflicts the body, senses and mind. The Vedic mythology (concept mentioned in Tretayuga) states it to originate from Shiva mentioning it as Rudrakopa.

All definitions of the word Jwara points out to one main point of increase in temperature of the body. In conventional medicine fever is predominant and common symptom of many diseases. Fever is seen as the first warning the body gives in response to any imbalance or infection.A separate chapter in their texts has been written on Pyrexia of unknown origin. Fever is generally due to pathological impact of microbes as well as traumatic and several reasons. This temperature regulation process involves CNS and Circulatory Systems.

MithyaAhar-Vihara vitiates tridosha resulting in vitiation of agni. The resultant Aama (toxin) causes srotavarodha and circulates throughout the body mixed with rasa. This leads to rise in temperature.Jwara not only causes disturbances in the body but also in the mind and sense organs.

The main line of treatment of Jwara should include the following at different stages,

Dipana,Pachana,Jwaraghna or Jwaraharadravyas.Charaka has explained Jwarahara Dashemanidravyas in the treatment of Jwara. These drugs are Sariva,Sharkara,Patha,

Manjistha,Draksha,Pilu,Parushaka,Abhaya,AmlakhiBibhitaki.

Among these the selection of Sariva and Patha in this work depends on two criteria. Sariva and Patha due to their RaktaShodhak properties also act as Antimicrobial and thus plays an important role in SampraptiVighatana by eliminating causes at the root level.Apart from these the main objective is to prevent the complications of Jwara.

6.2) Review of Literature:

Thorough screening of all available classical Ayurvedic texts like Brihatryee1,2,3 and Laghutrayee7,12, modern literatures and pharmacological literatures will be made to generate sufficient literary data for the present study.SarivaPatha are considered under JwaraharaDashemani in Charka sutrasthana fourth chapter.
