Iowa State University Parents’ Association

Mission Statement

The Iowa State University Parents’ Association (ISUPA) serves all Cyclone families by promoting parent programs and communicating university resources to enhance students’ experiences and success at Iowa State.

The organization is formed for the purpose of:

  • Providing a support network for the families of Iowa State University (ISU) students.
  • Supporting the programs, activities and mission of ISU.
  • Enhancing communication between the University and the families of ISU students.
  • Offering family members the opportunity to enhance the quality of their students’ educational and cultural experiences.
  • Promoting University programs and services that best meet the needs of ISU students and their families.

The Iowa State University Parents ‘Association is interested in exploring these areas of assistance:

  • General student life
  • Student welfare and safety
  • Student retention
  • Student recruitment
  • Continued involvement in student academics
  • Enhanced communications between the total university and parents and families (timely graduation, school calendar, promoting a university newsletter etc.)
  • Enhanced ISU outreach in home communities
  • Serving as ex-officio members on collegiate advisory boards
  • Assisting Dean of Students Office in meeting its mission

Role of the ISUPA Directors

The role of the board is that of an advisory board to the Dean of Students Office, to advise the university on the needs and perspectives of parents and families to enhance programs and services. The board of directors is comprised of parents and families of currently enrolled ISU students and represents a broad geographic base and shall not exceed 24 members, the majority of which shall reside in Iowa.

Individuals volunteering service on the ISUPA Board of Directors are asked to participate as follows:

  • Participate in two Board meetings each year: fall (coinciding with Cyclone Family Weekend), winter (January, February or March)
  • Volunteer for at least 1 or 2 sessions of new student orientation during June. This involves public speaking, boosting ISUPA, and sharing a parent’s perspective.
  • Join the Board in Cyclone Family Weekend events.
  • Join the Board in committee work, primarily at the winter meeting.

Applicants will be contacted soon thereafter. The selections will be made from those who have expressed an active interest and will be based upon ability to contribute to the work of the ISUPA, as well as considerations of geographic coverage of Iowa with smaller representation from other geographic areas.
