Cheltenham Festivals, your employer and you have a legal obligation under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 to ensure that you and those around you are not exposed to risks to their health and safety. We therefore need to see evidence that you are taking appropriate control measures for your session, even if they are relatively straightforward.

This information is shared with our production team and event managers, so that we may support you during your time at the festival.

If you already have a risk assessment for your activity, then you may submit this instead of using the Cheltenham Festivals template. Please note, however, that all submitted risk assessments must include the following:

  • Brief description of each activity/demonstration
  • Identification of relevant hazards, risks and to whom and/or what
  • Control measures required for activity/demonstration to take place safely
  • Evidence of risk product (probability x severity) evaluation with control measures in place
  • Date that risk assessment was carried out (or last reviewed)
  • Name of assessor

You must specify any minimum safety distances where an activity requires it.Do not use shorthand codes.

If your risk assessment is incomplete in any way, it will be returned to you for amendment.
