Course Description:

Have you every watched a fellow interpreter and thought, “She/he is so great. I wish I was that good”? What makes a “great” interpreter? This workshop will analyze a variety of skills that are parts of a “great” interpreter’s skills set. There are so many aspects of English-to-ASL and ASL-to-English interpreting that we continually hone our skills and perspectives in order to best serve the consumers. This workshop is a compilation of multiple skills that can assist any interpreter in rendering a coherent, cohesive message. Example topics include use of space, expansion techniques, vocabulary equivalence, sign variations, identifying inferences and references, and handling challenging source message materials.
